631457 2008-01-19 00:45:00 So I must have imagined that I read on a Tech site that Ad-Aware SE Personal was to be discontinued and the last update would be on 271207, and as I have seen to have happened on a Win98SE computer which I maintain for someone else on a regular basis.

Plus I have it on another boot of XP on my computer and it stopped updating.

Mine stopped updating too, so installed SpybotSD again, which only picked up an "Alexa related entry linked to c:\windows\web\related.htm" and got rid of it.

Also downloaded SpywareTerminator, and only threat that found was an "invalid startup item linked to a none-existing file in your registry HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current version\Run POINTER=point32.exe".

Didn't delete it because even though my mouse is not intellipoint, I may use one of them some day. This spyware program wants me to update, but when I downloaded the free one which could be used on Win 98, it said the resident part would only work on 2000 up. And I'm sure they said on its site that the update [which I didn't do] was not able to be used on Win98 so what's the point?

If I get any obvious problems that crop up, I'll just use HiHack This to help sort it out. Avast seems to be doing a good job so happy with that and Spybot now.

Cheers
Marg

631458 2008-01-19 22:31:00 "Is Ad-Aware SE now totally replaced by Ad-Aware 2007?"

In a word - YES

I guess the next question is then, has Ad-Aware 2007 been sorted?
I installed 2007 sometime ago on my own and a friends PC and had no end of trouble (as did a lot of Press F1 readers) and went back to the older version.
If 2007 is still buggy, what do you recommend? I'm running AVG Free, Spybot S&D, TR, RR.

631459 2008-01-20 00:18:00 Can't say how Ad-Aware 2007 is now, I installed one of the first versions and it was such a shocker that I uninstalled it and I have now abandoned Ad-Aware in all its forms for the moment. I am relying on SpyBot, Rogue Remover, RemoveIT free, AVG Free, Spyware Blaster, BoClean, and my own vigilance to avoid problems. zqwerty (97)

631463 2008-01-21 18:53:00 It seems that I was incorrect in my assertion that the last update for Ad-Aware SE had already been made because here is another one:
