632398 2008-01-21 06:10:00 I WANT TO GET ANOTHER STICK OF 256MB DDR RAM. CURRENTLY I ONLY HAVE 256MB WHILE RUNNING XP, WHEN I UPGRADED DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH:2cents: . MY MOTHERBOARD IS AN ASROCK GE PRO M2. IT HAS CAPABILITIES UP TO 333MHZ DDR DIMM. CURRENTLY I HAVE A STICK OF 256MB SDRAM (333MHZ AND CL2). WHEN BUYING ANOTHER STICK DO I NEED TO GET THE SAME BRAND/SPEED/TYPE/SIZE TO WORK? APPRECIATE THE HELP.

INCASE YOU SOMEHOW DIDNT PICK UP ON IT I WANT TO RUN DUAL RAM

632399 2008-01-21 06:16:00 Dont type everything in CAPS.

It makes it harder to read.

And yup, BOTH simms have to be the same speed/brand/same amount of ram
for dual channel to work.

Are you SURE it supports dual channel memory. The Asrock site doesnt say anything about this mobo supporting it.

632400 2008-01-21 06:29:00 why does it have two slots then if it cant run dual memory nzjab06 (101)
632401 2008-01-21 06:31:00 1 nzjab06 (101)
632402 2008-01-21 06:38:00 I dont know, probably because you dont see mobos with 1 slot.

And I've downloaded the manual. The manual doesnt say anything about dual channel either.

632403 2008-01-21 06:42:00 Your not going to notice any difference running dual channel at that speed on that mobo.

Get another 512MB or better a Gig and put it in. The more RAM the better.

632404 2008-01-21 06:48:00 any shops where you can get good cheap second hand 512mb memory in auckland central? nzjab06 (101)
632405 2008-01-21 08:19:00 Don't bother with 2nd hand. 512 costs about $70 and a gig costs around $120. Or find someone with an old comp that's similar and raid theirs. I just cannabalised an old comp for bits for another one, and having a gig of memory really does make a difference. Dual channel doesn't talk about how many sticks of RAM you can have, it talks about a different type of RAM. Thebananamonkey (7741)
632406 2008-01-21 20:46:00 What do you mean by a different type of ram? SDRAM/DIMM? 333/400? nzjab06 (101)
632407 2008-01-21 20:57:00 Just open the case and take it in you favorite PC repair shop.
They might not even charge you to grow more memory.
SDRam is obsolete and it will most likely be "used".
