| 632387 | 2008-01-21 04:31:00 | Hi I reformatted my computer on xp pro sp2. Everthing is great except the media player. When I try to play DVD it says it cant play it as there is no compatible DVD decoder on my computer. I down loaded a decoder from Microsofts site and still no go. I did down load the widows media decoder checker the one I downloaded is in there but when made the preferred one it made Media player freeze on first click. I tried deleting Media player but found you cannot uninstall M/S products, tried rolling back but will not let me. Can anyone help me get Media player 11 going. I have downloaded an alternitive but would like Media player to work:help: |

| 632389 | 2008-01-21 05:15:00 | Hi I reformatted my computer on xp pro sp2 . Everthing is great except the media player . When I try to play DVD it says it cant play it as there is no compatible DVD decoder on my computer . I down loaded a decoder from Microsofts site and still no go . I did down load the widows media decoder checker the one I downloaded is in there but when made the preferred one it made Media player freeze on first click . I tried deleting Media player but found you cannot uninstall M/S products, tried rolling back but will not let me . Can anyone help me get Media player 11 going . I have downloaded an alternitive but would like Media player to work:help: Some people don't like it when I badmouth WMP11 . . . but as you can see . . . it has troubles . You CAN roll back to v10, but you've gotta use the Micro$oft site to do it . . . There's been enough problems just like you have . . . and for me too, I use WMP10 . . . it works and doesn't have all the DRM gobbledegook that re-associates your files (MP3s etc,) for itself and locks them down for ever and ever to itself . It CAN be gotten rid of and the files saved and rescued . Here's a short view of what M$ wants you to do do rid your syst3m of this dumb, stupid and flawed version of WMP and go back to WMP10: "You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to perform the following procedure . 1 . Disconnect any portable music or video devices that might be attached to your computer . 2 . Click Start, and then click Control Panel . 3 . In the Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program . 4 . Click Windows Media Player 11, and then click Remove . If Windows Media Player 11 is not displayed in the list of currently installed programs, then try the following: 1 . At the top of the list, select the Show updates check box . 2 . In the Windows XP - Software Updates section, click Windows Media Player 11, and then click Change/Remove . 5 . In each of the two confirmation dialog boxes that appear, click OK . 6 . When the rollback process is complete (it might take several minutes), click Restart . 7 . Click Start, and then click Control Panel . 8 . In the Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program . 9 . Click Windows Media Format 11 Runtime, and then click Remove . If Windows Media Format 11 Runtime is not displayed in the list of currently installed programs, then try the following: 1 . At the top of the list, select the Show updates check box . 2 . In the Windows XP - Software Updates section, click Windows Media Format 11 Runtime, and then click Change/Remove . If you installed a non-US English version of Windows Media Player 11, the instructions in the dialog boxes that are mentioned in steps 9, 10, and 11 might appear in English . 10 . In the first confirmation dialog box that appears, click OK . 11 . In the second confirmation dialog box that appears, select the Do you want to continue with the rollback? check box, and then click OK . 12 . When the rollback process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Restart . 13 . Click Start, and then click Control Panel . 14 . In the Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program . 15 . Click Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1 . 0 . 0, and then click Remove . 16 . Follow the instructions that appear in the Software Update Removal Wizard . If the Wudf01000 confirmation dialog box appears, click Yes to continue . When the software removal process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Finish . Note If you remove Windows Media Player 11 and the Windows Media Format 11 Runtime, and then encounter error C00D271D ("A problem has occurred in the Digital Rights Management component . Contact Microsoft product support . "), you might be able to resolve the problem by installing the Windows Media Format 9 . 5 Runtime . For information about installing the Runtime, in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, see article 891122, "Update for Windows Media Digital Rights Management-enabled players . " You might not be able to roll back to a previous version of the Player if the hidden folder $NtUninstallwmp11$ is deleted from your computer . Some non-Microsoft programs (such as CCleaner) delete this folder in an attempt to remove unwanted files from your computer . " Lots of luck . |

| 632390 | 2008-01-21 05:21:00 | Just to be clear, the K-Lite Codec packs are generally considered illegal software (en.wikipedia.org). I know they're in high use but that doesn't make the point any less true. This is because the technology used to play proprietary formats from Apple and Real was reversed-engineered (or so claimed). I'd also recommend against installing a K-Lite codec pack (several are available) as they are usually overloaded with codecs which is an easy way for your system to become unstable if things go wrong, and is also not an easy "uninstall to fix" scenario. I'd recommend using just ffdshow (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/) as your sole media codec as this one is the major codec in K-Lite and other codec packs, bringing 90% of the format support. |

Category:All articles with unsourced statements Wikipedia can not be taken as always being correct . Not saying its not true, but if K-lite is so illegal it like many other places would be forced to close . One player that Is used a lot is Video Lan (http://www . videolan . org/) Has a lot more adjustments than WMP |
