Some are simply thin foam with a glue backing. Others are hollow rubber which squeeze when the window etc is closed. Not expensive compared to a new fridge seal. Having said that, it might be worth checking the cost of a replacement seal. As to defrosting, my dear mum used to put a pot of hot water in the freezer compartment to speed things up. By the way, is there by any chance a cow, formerly of Tokoroa, in your fridge? Could explain why the door won't close. It's hiding from Elephant. Just leave it there. |

(oven is on cooking a cake next to fridge) so yeah... i'll go to mitre 10 2morrow and see whats what... the "seal" is that the rubber bit that goes around the door and keeps air in and out of fridge? (like that ad we see on tv) |

You will need to use the correct type of seal, check the yellow pages for someone that repairs and renews fridge seals. I am not aware that mitre 10 will sell such things as they are likely brand and model specific. Fridge seals are also different to aquatic seals you find near the sea(the "arf arf" type) If you are thinking of putting a real seal in the fridge, please take elephant's cow out first. Or was it an elephant seal, now I am confused. |

Well I took it to be an elephant seal cow.... or should that be a cow elephant seal? > Umm... Elephant, tell me, why do the sheep hide from you ?:| Maybe they have an irrational fear of wood chippers? |

Do not attempt to use a seal which is foaming. It is probably very cross at being dragged into your kitchen and won't want anything to do with the cow or the sheep. No community of interest you see. ;) Incidentally, as a good Scotsman, I can tell you that the cheap and simple fix of weatherseal does work. But have a go at adjusting the door first. |

Also be aware that Winston001 will be using his fridge to keep things warm, as down in Invercargill (also known as Invertarctica) the temperature insde a fridge is usually a few degrees warmer than the outside temperature. Regretfully I will be spending Xmas down there, I do hope to see one day free from horizontal rain. |
