About 30 years ago my parents had a rather noisy frig.

An aunt and uncle came to stay and my parents were talking to them about the borer in the house (the standing joke was it was the borer holding hands that kept the house standing).

In the morning my white and shaken aunt emerged stating that yes we did have a problem - the borer had been keeping her awake all night chewing their way noisily through the walls!

Then there was the early automatic washing machine that bounced it's way around the laundry. Mum solved the problem by sitting on it reading the paper...

183786 2003-11-25 01:04:00 Hellooooooooooooooo
yes bringing this thread back up again...but with my experience in hand...

the fridge i have now..is a small bar fridge and has a ice compartment which is big enough for 2-3 meat trays from the supermarket, and now its getting all iced up which obviously means it needs a defrosting...

i've turned the fridge off and got a oven tray under it so the ice can melt and fall off itself...

is that the correct way to go? (yes u can say i'm scared of diving in with something incase i damage it again as this one is on loan from gf's parents)

theres no meat to go in it, i got the last one out for tea tonight, so time doesnt really matter as long it is done today :-)

183787 2003-11-25 01:21:00 YO Chris (as in the friendly African- American greeting showing brotherly solidarity in the face of redneck non-geeks)
This new fridge may not have particularly effective door seals. A build up of ice generally occurs when there is plenty of air movement in and out of the fridge. Put a strip of rubber window sealant (hardware shop) as a cheap fix around where the door closes against the fridge.

Defrosting is usually achieved by leaving the door open and the switch off. No spoons necessary!

183788 2003-11-25 01:26:00 yeah its got a lil gap between the "fridge" and the "door" when tis close, no more than a few millimetres...

so this rubber sealant stuff? is it cheap? and how do u actually put it on or would the package have instructions?

i suppose a trip to mitre10 would be on my agenda for later today or tommorrow

yeah i know no spoons...is there anything i can use or should i just learn some patience and let it defrost with nature's help (warm air)
