183749 2003-10-16 05:25:00 This is the most OT post I've ever seen on here. Next we'll be asking how to remove spots off the carpet (or something) ;) PoWa (203)
183750 2003-10-16 05:33:00 hehe, but the OT posts make PF1 more appealing, dont you think? Depends on what kind of OT, ofc, but yeah they still are cool to read.

I know its a computer-related forum, but its like one big happy(?) family here, and its cool that we can also talk about stuff that's not computer-related.

Um ... I know a few far more OT than this. One was started by a current PF1 regular beginning with "L" and involved recommendations for a new brand of laundry powder and fabric softener :D

OT stuff in moderation gives the forum some character and makes a change from the pure techo posts. After all, people need a bit of cheering up when they visit often in an stressed out mood because xyz on their PC won't start/stop/smokes/beeps/limps and they are looking for the nearest window to heave it out.

>...i can cover up with nailpolish to hide my actions

Chris, you live alone I think ... what are you doing with nailpolish and what colour is it? :p

183752 2003-10-16 06:16:00 i'm glad to confess i aint a guy who dresses as a girl..
i'm just gonna go and buy some 2morrow and then when i finished with it...theres young kids living next door..they can have it lol..no harm being friendly with neighbours...but in this case i think i mite throw it away after use to hide my covering up actions lolol..and since the freezer compartment is silver, the polish would have to be that colour unless u jen (ur a girl/lady by te sounds of the name) gonna tell me that silver is not in polish colour as i wouldnt know....

and i thought the most OT post was something on septemeber 11...or something else

and laundry powder, i'd go with cold water surf...

What! Rofl I must have missed it :) Anyway, I'm going to start up my OT thread tomorrow about what to do when your pen might be broken - should I buy a new one, replace the ink, invent a new pen, which colour is the best, whats the most expensive, what materials, nicest to use etc etc. Or maybe I'll start up what paper tissues are the best...all of lifes trivialities..

You know there is another forum that frequents in this...its the tradme general forum. (I think it has a higher user base too). This is where nz's most cabbage people convene to discuss things they can't figure out by themself. :p But in light of that, this is much less trivial than what goes on over there.

Did anyone realise that while everyone is bumping up these OT threads, another thread where someone is having a computer problem gets dropped off the main page. How about a sticky thread that everyone posts their OT stuff in there. Then the thread can take whichever direction it wants and it doesn't stop people questions being answered.

183754 2003-10-16 07:17:00 I did say OT in moderation ....

However, you will find that it is uncommon for a post go unanswered around here, and that would be because someone has a very obscure problem that no advice can be dug up for, or it is of such a specialised nature that only one or two people could give advice on - and they may not visit the forum everyday or something :D

Myself, and many others undoubtly, always check right back through pages for unanswered posts. So I would hope that no ones problem will go unanswered because of a popular OT thread.

It is when OT's turn into flame wars that we run the risk of having them banned.

2c

realises that replying to this OT thread will bump it back to the top again ... oops

183755 2003-10-16 07:23:00 Bumping the same thread each time does not always "push others down the page" .
Its still the same thread .
It only displaces 1 line, not one each time it bumps (assuming its that popular it stays on the same page)

And this has been one of the better OT's .

Particularly beetles Eulogy .
Very moving .
Particularly the "Goodbye cruel weld" bit .

thanxs goddie, its in the genetics or something, musta rubbed off the from the outlaw family thing or something,
?:|
but as you know im good at speeling things out, not proud to say it but i can utter rubbish as good as the next person..... :p

its been entertaining certainly and some OT's are good while some can be tiresome,
but i think pf1 would lack something if they banned them....

long live pf1,

183757 2003-10-16 08:06:00 A small point that everyone seems to have overlooked...

If an appliance is supplied with the accommodation then the repair of same is the landlord's responsibility. Mind you, if the tenant has inflicted willfull damage (with a teaspoon) then said landlord could have grounds for complaint and could argue this through the tenancy services.

This also applies to stove top elements. Not quite sure what tenants do to the things - but if one goes the landlord has to replace it.

If in doubt try tenancy services for a verdict - they do respond to email. (email link bottom left of page) www.minhousing.govt.nz

They probably use the elements to heat up knives for spotting hashish
