193973 2003-11-22 23:49:00 >>>Finally divide by 1000 to arrive at litres.
oops, that should be MULTIPLY cu.m. by 1000 to get litres !!!

193974 2003-11-22 23:50:00 Whoops. At least I was on the right track. I was thinking more about the difficulty of measuring ( usually ) the irregular shape inside a fridge.

And why bother?

If the Cow won't fit then get a bigger fridge!!! :-)

And/Or another freezer.

193975 2003-11-22 23:56:00 I STILL want to know the cubic measurement of a Cow though.

The only way I think I can do that is push it into a tank of water and measure water displacenent. We can't have any bits of the Cow floating either. Does anyone know how long a Cow can hold its' breath under water?

193977 2003-11-23 00:12:00 Yep. Sounds about right! Have you actually tested this on any cows yet?
If so have any come back to moo - n about?

:-)

193978 2003-11-23 00:20:00 1 large alive cow = ~ 600 kg on the hoof

assume sg of 0.8? (total guess) and the cow would have a mass of about 750 litres. (Note that at this stage the cow is alive, and a little concerned)

subtract 40 litres of blood, gives 690 litres dry weight.
(Note that by this stage the cow is either dead or very close to it).

"User serviceable" parts would be about half this figure, on the assumption you are not partial to eating skin bones and offal.
(Note that by this stage the cow is very dead, and you have a large mess to clean up)

193979 2003-11-23 00:37:00 Well I was thinking about putting the said cow into a woodchipper.

If it was me ( as a cow )I'd be VERY concerned as I was being led there!!!

193981 2003-11-23 01:24:00 Due to the above posts,I am trying to get a cow to lay down in the bath and it is hopeless,I will try the dog next, will let you know how long it can hold it's breath. Thomas (1820)
193982 2003-11-23 01:26:00 Lay it on its back on the scales. Fill it with water. 1 litre = 1 kg. :D Graham L (2)
