632499 2008-01-21 15:05:00 The 256mb DDR3 8600GTS would be the best value for money at that price range I think. They're about $230 brand new.

What kind of PSU do you have though? Is it some crappy generic one or a branded one?

632500 2008-01-21 21:28:00 If you can wait for the 9600GT, then do. Double the performance of 8600GTS mejobloggs (264)
632501 2008-01-21 21:39:00 What chipset do the cards use? The type of memory used on the card is pretty irrelevant and is dependant of the chipset. Pete O'Neil (6584)
632502 2008-01-21 23:39:00 I recomment 8600 GT Bera (13301)
632503 2008-01-22 07:32:00 9600GT Around the $300 mark on release psychogeforce (13310)
632504 2008-01-22 20:30:00 I have an 8600GT and its ok. Just don't expect to be playing the latest games at high resolutions. HL2 works fine at 1680x1050, but something like Crysis will crawl :) autechre (266)
632505 2008-01-24 22:14:00 sorry i meant 450w psu, atm im using a friends old graphics card :groan: its a geforce 6600 cos i kinda ran out of cash while building and needed something for temparary use, i got a sunbeamtech evil eyes gaming case with a 450w l&c Technolagy  PSU (included with the case) a helpless random (13059)
632506 2008-01-28 01:04:00 when is the 9600GT released? and what will the next ati card be? a helpless random (13059)
632507 2008-01-28 21:43:00 If you need one quick get a xfx 8800gs alpha dog edition 384mb for $300 www.extremepc.co.nz

The 8800gs is suppose to be as powerful as a 9600gt, That 8800gs is Alpha dog edtion so it should be more powerful than a 9600gt.

Also take to note geforce 9 has no new "features" not even shader model 4.1 so I'd go for the 8800gs. :)
