| 1422977 | 2016-07-12 09:03:00 | Kingsoft and its associated software has taken over my friend's files and MS Applications. Windows 10 OS. I have uninstalled it via Programs and features, and Revo Uninstaller. I cannot get the default Applications in MS Word or Excel to open any files, Kingsoft WPS seems to have embedded itself and will not now open anything. There are registry entries showing and I have tried to delete them to no avail. Friend is tearing her hair out and I am completely bamboozled! Nothing we try works, and she cannot open any of her MS Office docs. Any help appreciated. LL |

| 1422978 | 2016-07-12 10:24:00 | After reading the above I am bamboozled as well. Let's slow down and try to establish a few facts. You say WPS has been uninstalled and then say "it will not now open anything". Why did you expect an uninstalled program to run anything? Can't understand what "the default Applications in MS Word or Excel" means. Is Word and Excel installed? Can you open/run them? What happens when, for example, you run Word and point it to a doc file and try to open it? Change default apps in:- Notifications/All Settings/System/Default apps/Choose default apps by file type. There will be an answer to this!! |

| 1422979 | 2016-07-12 22:07:00 | Re-install MS Office . Problem solved Assuming they actually have a license for MS Office . Possibly they dont or it was a trial version of office :) Otherwise manually reset the default apps for .doc, .docx , xls, .xlxs . You'll need to google how to do it in Win10 (its not hard) Some new laptops come preinstalled with Kingsoft & MS Office 30day trial (just why both ???) Otherwise , people install Kingsoft/Open Office only when they dont want to buy MS Office. |

| 1422980 | 2016-07-12 22:10:00 | Ok, here goes. All the friend's documents somehow got changed to the Kingsoft Office defaults of W, P, or S. I have tried the following which you suggested, but, I cannot change the defaults to MS Word, PowerPoint, or Excel. There is no option for doing so that shows up. "Change default apps in:- Notifications/All Settings/System/Default apps/Choose default apps by file type." She does have a legit copy of MS Office 2007. Even with the Kingsoft software having been removed, the docs still want to open with it. If I right click, Open with, there is no other option available. If she sends a doc to her other laptop which has MS Office also, it will open normally. I am sure that somehow Kingsoft has taken over and there are still some files or reg entries that are causing the problem. However, I will go back and double check the Default apps again, just in case I have missed something.... There will be an answer as you say! Cheers, LL |

| 1422981 | 2016-07-12 22:20:00 | That new version of Kingsoft sucks. Wants to display an iffy looking ad when you print, and 3 clicks later you get your printout. Yep, normal printing is now a feature of the paid version. | Renegade (16270) | ||

Thanks, she does have a legit copy of MS Office on both her laptops, but she downloaded Kingsoft on the main one that she uses, just to try out, because someone else suggested that it was a good program to use. Now she regrets that big time! I might just have a Google at how to manually reset the defaults as you suggest, or relinstall MS Office. I will have to confirm that with her first, to make certain that she has it on a disc or at least has the licence code for it somewhere. Cheers, LL |

(unlikely but worth a look) . Sometimes, in add remove programs, there is a repair option for MS Office . |
