1422630 2016-07-03 08:35:00 My desktop like many has two USB3 ports at the back of the machine. Getting older makes it difficult to get on the floor under the desk to get to the ports. Does a standard USB extn cable act as a USB3 cable or do I need to source a specific cable to get USB3 capabilities? Can I have the ports in the front of the computer? The m/b is a ASUS M5A 78L-M. 1422631 2016-07-03 09:45:00 You could get something like this that'll plug into the back ports. (www.ebay.com.au _vfmJqQQ)

If the front of the case doesnt have USB 3 ports, you could buy something like this (www.ebay.com.au Q) and use the cable above and plug it into the back ports. It doesnt look like this mobo has a USB 3 header on the mobo either

This will let you use USB 2 ports as well. You connect the USB 2 connections to the USB 2 headers on the mobo. If there's enough of them that is

1422633 2016-07-03 20:59:00 I guess my old befuddled brain wasn't working too well last night. I am sure that I can just buy a cable of say a meter that will plug into the rear USB3, run it from there to the top of my desk and just plug in the USB3 device as I need it. Simple really, just like me! Bryan (147)
1422634 2016-07-03 21:59:00 Personally I use a powered 5 port USB 3.0 Hub on my desk so I don't have to climb around underneath. As a bonus it has 2 high current charging only ports that are always on. I think I got mine from E-bay after reading some reviews online but I have since seen very similar models in PBtech. And that's even though my PC does have front USB 3.0 ports. dugimodo (138)
