1422426 2016-06-27 07:53:00 I don't have a lot of hope for solving this one in a hurry because it's months between occurrences. I Built my PS in August 2015, it has a new M.2 Samsung EVO as the C: drive and I re-used a crucial MX100 512GB SSD from my previous build as my D: drive. About 3-4 times since I built it the D: drive has just disappeared from the system, at least twice while running. Power cycling doesn't seem to help while it's missing but fiddling about with the cables does.

I tried a different SATA port the first time, swapped the SATA cable the second time, thought I'd fixed it after months of no issues both times then it happens again. I have Just put it back to the original SATA port and the original Cable and am currently suspecting maybe the power connection is a little dodgy. It doesn't feel particularly positive and the side does push on the cable a little.

My Steam Directory is on the D: drive so my games tend to crash on me when this happens which is a bit irritating, but because it's so infrequent hasn't upset me too much yet. Any Ideas on what to try or how to diagnose a fault that happens approx once every 3 months? I installed Crucials software and checked drive health, firmware version, and SMART status - all ok.

Incidentally purely as an interesting aside The drive is over a year old and has been my C: drive for a few months on the old system and is now a games drive and these are some of it's stats:
2718 hours power on time
2.17 TB written
0% life used

Doesn't look like I'm wearing out this SSD too fast for all those that are paranoid about their lifespan.

1422427 2016-06-27 21:27:00 Did you plug the Crucial into one of the ports the M.2 doesnt use?? M2 can use /or will disable 2 of the sata ports for bandwidth Speedy Gonzales (78)
1422428 2016-06-27 23:48:00 Thanks Speedy, yes I'm aware of that but it wouldn't work at all in those ports. I did accidentally try one when swapping ports and it didn't work as you'd expect.
This is my motherboard www.asus.com according to the manual it's only one of the SATA express ports that is disabled by using a SATA mode M.2 SSD
