1419460 2016-04-21 23:08:00 Pre-1840 the Maoris did not have a name for the whole of New Zealand as they had no sense of a Maori nation – they were* just separate warring-with-one-another tribes.

In 1643 the country was named New Zealand by the States-General (Parliament) of Holland and this has been its name for 370 years. Aotearoa as a fanciful name for New Zealand invented only in 1890 when S. Percy Smith used it as a make-up name for the whole country in his fictional story of Kupe. Nu Tirani appears in the Treaty of Waitangi. “Aotearoa” does not.

Very interesting, I thought, and well worth sharing.

1419462 2016-04-22 00:01:00 A lot of interesting and good information there. However it's loaded with Poor grammar and obvious Bias and could really do with some editing. These arguments work a lot better IMHO if they don't come across as hateful ranting against a particular group. They have a lot of valid points, but they can easily be missed under anger at the presentation of them. The Language is deliberately provocative and more like something an angry school kid would write than a proper discussion of the issues. Whoever wrote it is not doing their cause any favours, despite being a position a lot of Kiwis probably would agree with if presented better. dugimodo (138)
1419463 2016-04-22 02:16:00 Excellent Link Roscoe.

Well, nothing in it that I can see that can be challenged, which begs the question “What can we do about it?

From where I sit we need to rid ourselves of Key and Finlayson, simple as that.

Finlayson is an unelected List MP who has failed to win his seat in four previous elections and is only there as Key’s “Fall Guy”.

So where does that leave us? Well we have to rid ourselves of Key and his Racist Policies and if that in turn means ditching the whole National Party then so be it.

However, there still may be hope, because I predicted years ago that Key would stand down prior to the next election, probably citing health problems, and whilst there is no sign of that yet, I am still hopeful he will find an excuse to retire.

And HERE (breakingviewsnz.blogspot.co.nz) is another link that supports Roscoe’s.

:) Hymmmm, bit of an ask when Labour had kicked the whole Foreshore and Seabed claim into touch, but Key, in his position as "Waitangi Tribunal Stooge", reopened the whole matter and gave it to them.

Then THIS (www.stuff.co.nz)

1419467 2016-04-22 08:16:00 Well the make name of Aotearoa has survived perhaps fittingly. Percy probably wanted some maori/inherent connection, rather than for the colonist dutch to take credit of of naming our islands New Zealand. Don't know why the dutch never migrated here then, like other territories they invaded, imposing dutch rule, and slavery. They did arrive in mass three hundred years later (1950's) after NZ named officially. I knew heaps of them, that settled in the Auckland eastern suburbs. "Zealand" incidentally is also is a Danish island. kahawai chaser (3545)
