| 1419336 | 2016-04-19 05:30:00 | Haven't been there since I had my horse up in paddocks near the base. Had to go along a detour up Whenuapai today so cruised along a bit until I got there. Thought I'd come out the back way on the way to North Shore but it's a dead end now. Anyway, it's horrifying. Miles and miles and miles of this stuff all along the main rd There's side roads now too, I looked down them as I went along, just more of the same. Step out your front door directly onto the footpath, right on the main rd. With traffic lights outside your window. And traffic. Couldn't see a normal house and section anywhere, not even like my wee crosslease thing. And I thought this crosslease business was bad. And here I was picking on lakewoodladys daughters place. It's awesome palatial grounds in comparison. It was actually depressing to look at. You'd get a bunch of them, then a few shops - cafe, hairdresser, that sort of thing, then a whole heap more. Most didn't have spaces out front, a few did. LIke a metered parking space you'd see in a shopping area, but not metered, I guess for the lucky ones who can put a car somewhere. 71177118 And they're not even cheap!! $675,000 - $875,000!! No wonder so many Aucklanders are running away. |

Used to race around on the shopbike (Like Open all hours Arbuckle bike) and pick mushrooms on the airfield. Now just packed in with human filth. | prefect (6291)

Pubs were great when a bit older. In the days of being 21 before legally being allowed into a pub stopped us from drinking till we were 18. Howick pub was a good watering hole. Steinlager Cellar on Wellesley St. another great place. Puhoi Pub long before it got trendy :) Aaah, Auckland was a great place in the late 50's early 60's. Pretty crap these days. :( Ken |

When 16 had to drive over the Takaka hill to the Rattrap pub to get crates of beer for parties. They would serve you if had a heart beat and some money then back over the hill. |

I was in the upstairs bar having a quiet ale or three with some mates when I bought an Auckland Star from a newspaper boy that was allowed on the premises just to sell the newspaper. From that paper I learned the wonderful news I was a winner in the national lottery just by having my birthday in the list of birthdays. Way before the end of six o'clock closing, and way before I turned 18 :) |

Density (while not necessarily a nice thing) really is required long term or the place will just become impossible to get around. | wratterus (105)
