1422364 2016-08-13 08:24:00 It helps if you have a wireless modem/router somewhere.

It'll make things a lot easier. And if the printer has a screen you have to configure the wireless on it so it connects to the modem first

Then if the install file is "smart" enough, (and if the laptop / desktop's wireless has been set up properly), it should be able to pick up the wireless on the printer, install the software for it.

So you can print to it. Either from a laptop / desktop or a smartphone. If there's an app for the printer

1422365 2016-08-13 23:53:00 Hi Billy

You probably have your answer by now, but just in case. My setup:

Windows 10 (but this worked with Win XP and 8.1 when I had them)
HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One
Nexus 9" Android tablet (Marshmallow, but again this has worked for previous Android versions as well)
HP ePrint app on the tablet.

For most of this printer's life, printing from my PC was via USB cable, even though in one study this required a 5m cable. Now that my printer needs to be on the other side of the room in this study, I dispensed with the cable to avoid tripping over it. I always print using WIFI instead of the cable. On your printer, I guess the setup system is similar to mine - first use the Setup key on the printer, scroll down to Network, then scroll down to Wireless Setup - follow the prompts there. Bob will be your aunty. In the case of the C6180, a blue light comes up on the facia panel to show it is working.

Secondly, I have always used the HP ePrint app on the two Android tablets I have owned. Again, it is dead easy. First install the app (also see my final para below). Then select Print in the menu for your document (in my email app, it shows as Copy/Share/Send/Print, or summat like that). This should then show you the various options you have on your tablet for printing, including the HP ePrint App. Follow it from there.

I seem to recall that the first time I used the HP ePrint app it had to "find" a compatible printer (though possibly my memory is faulty on that). Now it just picks it up straight away. It shows the printer's name and internet address - whether the print request goes direct to the printer or via the internet I have no idea.

1422366 2016-08-13 23:58:00 For the benefit of other users of the HP6830 ...You can't use wireless for printing from the tablet while you are using either a USB connection or Ethernet for printing from a laptop. You have to connect both the laptop and the Tablet via a wireless network. (Our laptop couldn't communicated via HP wireless direct so that rulled HP Print Direct out.)

Works perfectly but sometimes can be slow.

For several years I have had my desktop (and now the laptop that has replaced my desktop), printing via USB cable whilst my tablet was able to print via the HP ePrint App. Admittedly my printer is an HP C6180 rather than your HP6830, but I don't see why HP would have introduced a silly restriction like that.

1422369 2016-08-22 21:40:00 Wow guys, come on, so much mis-information here!!

If you setup the printer in Google Cloud Print (Via Chrome) then there's no reason you shouldn't be able to print to it from your phone / tablet, even if it's directly attached to the PC. This includes what they call a "Classic Printer" and not one that connects directly to the cloud, AKA: ANY PRINTER!
support.google.com

It's really quite simple:
1) Ensure you have setup the Printer in Google Cloud Print over at www.google.com (See earlier link for info on setting up a Classic Printer)
2) On your Android phone, go "Share" and then select "Google Cloud Print"
3) Enjoy printing from your Cellphone, Tablet, Chromebook, or anywhere that you sign in to Chrome as well!
