1419729 2016-04-30 05:19:00 I decided to take the fixed price offer on the basis that electricity prices (unlike mortgage interest rates) rarely if ever go down. They always go up... Our power usage is not very high so neither are our bills, but this will make our position certain in the interim. Between now and 2018 I will know if I made a mistake or not... John H (8)

You're most likely right, not often stuff like this drops in price.

1419731 2016-04-30 23:01:00 This part worries me though.

(Terms and conditions apply, and there are limited circumstances in which prices may change.)

If you are locked in & cant get out without paying a fee as smithie mentions in post #5.

1419732 2016-05-01 08:17:00 I am not with Contact but do they give you any cash incentive? How's the fixed rate compared to the current floating rate?

I do know with Genesis we signed up a fixed rate late 2014 for 12 months. I recall I questioned them about 3 months that the rate had dropped and why it wasn't reflected in our bills, I was reminded I was on their fixed plan. For us the cash incentive more than made up for the loss.

Well if you read the first post, the indication is, the fixed rate will be the current.
Which is still pre-winter.

The cash incentive is the $50 off the next bill.

1419734 2016-05-02 00:50:00 fwiw's i dug out my spreadsheet. i used to collate them regulary but haven't done so for the last year. the price increase for the per kW charges generally increase around the month of March/April consistently, on the graph there was a increase that was November. you see falls occasionally too. October 2018 about a 2.5yr locked plan. if the price do drop with 2.5 or 1.5yr that price increase could offset the $50 incentive. but how knows if they increase or decrease.

1419735 2016-05-02 02:43:00 Thanks for that, something to consider.
I'm surprised there hasn't been more response to this thread seeing it's had over 500 views now.
Maybe they only chose a select few to try this out on.
