Electricity prices are changing but you can choose how this affects you

From 6 June 2016, the price you pay for your electricity at your location will change. The new prices reflect a recent change in local network charges (the cost which network companies charge to transport the electricity from the grid to your place) as well as a change in Contact’s charges. Your new prices are shown below.

Lock in price certainty with our fixed plan

If you let us know by 31 May 2016 that you want to sign up to our fixed plan, we can make sure this price change doesn’t affect you. On the fixed plan, the base rate you are on now will stay the same until 31 October 2018 and you’ll get 20% off your electricity bill when you pay it on time, or make it 23% if you have your gas with us too. (Terms and conditions apply, and there are limited circumstances in which prices may change.)

And there's more...We'll also take $50 off your next bill if you choose the fixed plan.

Click here or give us a call on 0800 266 861 to see the full terms and conditions or to sign up to the fixed plan. We’re available from 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday, or 8am to 5pm on Saturday. You’ll need your Account and ICP number from the top of this message. If you are okay with the new prices shown below, you don’t need to do anything.

Yours sincerely

1419720 2016-04-28 21:52:00 Yeah I got an email, but you got a better deal than I was offered, I was offered 50 flybuys points rather than $50. tutaenui (1724)
1419721 2016-04-28 23:11:00 Yeah It looks good but there must be a catch Driftwood (5551)
1419722 2016-04-29 01:04:00 I use Powerswitch.

Currently there are 2 who are cheaper than my current provider, but only by $12 a year and one of them is Globug.
No thanks.

I always use the Customer Service ranking too - no point in trying for cheap if the service is **** as well.

1419725 2016-04-29 01:32:00 Definitely check out Flick Electric before you lock yourself in. Their "peak" pricing is still cheaper than my "standard" price I was on previously. Chilling_Silence (9)
1419726 2016-04-29 03:29:00 I collate a spreadsheet up, for us we found them 20% more expensive than Genesis. If you use Contact's 22% discount, online invoices auto payment etc it comes closer.
We have a composite meter b/c the previous owner had a mixture gas / electrical for water heating, we have moved to a full gas water heater but the meter on site is defined by what type it is.
May not be the overall cheapest but they don't want to deal with pre purchase, peak and off peak pricing.

1419727 2016-04-30 02:13:00 Wasn't concidering changing suppliers, as we currenty have both gas & power with Contact.
Just trying to decide weather to accept the offer or not.
I assume they are sending this out to all their customers.
I see this post has had over 200 views, must be someone else in this position.

Yeah me in this position - I had signed up a few months ago/last year for the same offer. and get the 23% discount. For combined Gas and Electricity. Incentive somewhat to stay in credit to get the discount. The "Living Smart Gas plan (32 days for 41.98/daily charge) and the Anytime (low user) electricity plan (34 days for $11.32/daily charge).

Giveth <> Taketh I think for the 23% discount...
