1418825 2016-04-09 23:55:00 Apparently when John Key and sycophants says NZ is not a tax haven, and then the rest of the world rolls on the floor with laughter and derision.

Even the Herald rofls with derision

All this in the same NZ Herald that is currently being chased by IRD for some $68m in unpaid Taxes and one piece written by HDPA who narrowly escaped prosecution by the police for her recent activity.

HDPA as you must be aware told lies in obtaining a firearm in an attempt to make the news.

Thanks for that Clive.

I couldn’t find the bit about the IRD chasing the NZ Herald for $68m but I’m happy to take your word for it. However, it could mean anything.

You see many years ago, at an IRD social event, (my wife worked for them) I wound up in conversation with the then Commissioner and what an interesting chap he was. The topic got to the fine line between Tax Avoidance and Tax Evasion, one being perfectly legal and the other not so of course.

He explained that a lot of the cases that wind up before the Courts do so simply to get a ruling. The IRD doesn’t actually care one way or the other, the problem is the law as it stands is open to interpretation and poorly written and therefore needs to be fixed.

Then there was a NZ Judge years ago that claimed it was every man’s duty to avoid tax. That didn’t go down well with some.

As for HDPA getting away with a deliberate criminal act because of some journalistic privilege is plain absurd. Next thing she will doing 100mph down Queen St and claim she was just demonstrating how easy it was to break the law.

An interesting profile on her from a Herald site.
