| 633777 | 2008-01-24 23:54:00 | Dear all, I plan to buy this RAM module (www.dse.co.nz) from Dick Smith to upgrade my laptop (store.agearnotebooks.com)'s total memory. My laptop currently has 1GB of RAM and now I wish to boost it up to 2GB. Question: How often do you encounter freak accidents with DSE RAMs? Cheers :) |

Just don't, whatever you do, get the shop people to install it - most of them take no antistatic precautions at all and could easily damage your laptop in the process. You'll be much happier. I've also had a small number of their SDRAM (not DDR) sticks dead on arrival. |

They made a bit of a fuss about it and had to prove it was working (I wanted the refund cos it wasn't compatible with my existing RAM). Fortunately it worked on their test machine fine and I got my refund. I had previously bought two sticks from them, no problems. |

| 633781 | 2008-01-25 02:25:00 | got a stick of PC-133 RAM from them years ago - still running perfect. Also had a stick of DDR-266 which was still running fine when I sold it. Only problem I can think of is that the price is a little high - you could find something just as good on pricespy for less: www.pricespy.co.nz (and that's even keeping in mind that the DSE stuff is on special) But nothing wrong with the DSE stuff, it will work. |

| 633782 | 2008-01-25 02:30:00 | That almost sounds like a loaded question :D "Freak Accidents" ?? Please explain what do you mean by Freak Accidents? Heya. I define it as "events of motherboard short-circuiting or the occurrence of electrical damages due to the insertion of faulty RAM". :D (Though Jan will define it differently) Thanks for the replies, wainuitech, bletch, Greg and Agent_24. And yes, I will personally install the RAM module onto the motherboard. Cheers :) |

Not all RAM works with all Laptops - got one here today, vendors claimed it the right stuff :groan: The laptop says different, even checked and according to its spec's it "should Work". Just make sure if it doesn't work you can return it and get RAM that does. |

| 633785 | 2008-01-25 04:53:00 | Pretty ridiculous pricing considering it's a reduced to clear product and for generic branded RAM (I think). Most PC stores have Kingston RAM $10-$15 cheaper than that which comes with a lifetime warranty too. |

| 633786 | 2008-01-25 05:23:00 | Faulty RAM will not cause physical damage to anything else Depends what sort of fault.. chips nuked by ESD would probably be fine, just corrupt data or cause the PC to fail POST, but say Vcc or other contacts were short to ground somehow, you'd burn your motherboard quite nicely |
