633632 2008-01-24 21:42:00 Hi all,

A friend of mine has a computer glitch. He has WinXP home and his USB bus has stopped working. It doesn't show up in Device Manager and the Find New Hardware wizard doesn't find any 'new' hardware so I suspect that it is a hardware issue rather than a software one. I gave him an Ubuntu disk to boot from to see if Linux could find the USB hardware. He couldn't find his USB thumb drive when booted from the CD however I am not convinced as he isn't familiar with Ubuntu. Does anyone know of any utilities I can try and diagnose the problem or process to confirm that it is a hardware issue?

Cheers

633633 2008-01-24 22:12:00 Ubuntu is the best bet for figuring out if it's a software or hardware issue. Maybe talk him through finding the info in Ubuntu? It does sound like a hardware issue to me, but Windows has dfone stranger things.. :p wratterus (105)
