633497 2008-01-24 05:51:00 Another question for upgrade.

What is the minimum wattage PSU I should use for a P4 system that is running an extra modem, sound card, two optical drives, a graphics card and possibly a tv tuner.

633498 2008-01-24 05:52:00 minimum or one that will actually work well and not die ?? tweak'e (69)
633499 2008-01-24 05:54:00 It is more important the PSU is a quality one. For example a quality branded 400W PSU is superior to a 500W cheaply made one.

What sort of budget are you looking at?

633500 2008-01-24 05:58:00 $100 nzjab06 (101)
633501 2008-01-24 06:17:00 Find one without a box lol .

I got these cheap (Thermaltake 430w for $60), because they were as is .

Didnt come in a package / box .

I'm probably running the same as you

2 dvd burners, 1 SATA hdd, 1 tuner, firewire card, and videocard .

Nothing has died or fried yet .

633502 2008-01-24 06:31:00 If you can get it cheap and it works, why not?! nzjab06 (101)
633503 2008-01-24 06:40:00 Sorry but i still want to know what would be a descent wattage from probably a no brand PSU. nzjab06 (101)
633504 2008-01-24 07:53:00 No brand PSU I would probably stick to 400W+. Brand PSU you could probably go down to 300W safely. Do yourself a favour and don't go for a cheap, no-name PSU. They can be more trouble than they're worth. Silverstone make some good under $100 PSU's. Mark Gribble (13074)
633505 2008-01-24 08:51:00 I would get 400w + for a P4.

I wouldnt bother with 250 - 350W PSU's.

633506 2008-01-24 08:53:00 300-W is not recommended in the motherboard literature.
500-W will give you enough to run a big video card if you ever need to run one.
400-W ICute will do the job for about $54, off the WWW, delivered, here in N Z.
