It's at my house. A traceroute to a friend of mine is 4 hops. Don't have the traceroute to paste in but:

1. My server
2. My router
3. Orcon server
4. His computer

On a different ISP it is 6 hops including my router.

But yes I agree that it passes through other machines - this is obvious. But I personally have no problem with trusting the machines at Global Gateway with the data - I'm sure they don't save/read it!

Cheers George

I hope that comes out okay... But yeah, from work its a good 9 hops. Now, theres the opportunity for logging at each of those, so you can see why I want SSL (Well, SSL sucks, but its all that IRC supports).

Isnt ignorance bliss :D
No offense intended....
But what would stop them? Surely if you worked at an ISP you'd be logging your customers transmissions?! What if the CIA came-a-knocking because one of your clients had tried to hack into the CIA online database?
Youd be in the poo if you couldnt produce results of who had what IP at said time right? So they're logging certain things regardless.... But with HDD space being cheap as chips, why wouldnt they do some heavy logging of the likes of emails, or certain ports?

Dont just "assume" because you've not been told they are - Instead, assume they are because theyve not told you ;-)

Ive got a bot on my server doing some basic things, but he's not too useful ATM - So I'm going to have a play with another tonight and I'll see how I get on with him.

Cheers
