2008-01-26 02:24:00 | Well Pressf1 is owned by PCWorld. PCWorld is owned by Fairfax. Naturally they don't care their site is slowly disintegrating uner the weight of the ^%$#@ advertising. | pctek (84) | |
2008-01-26 02:34:00 | I have no intention of changing my browser, or using ad-blocking software etc etc to be able to view these pages. Not when every other site I go to is working fine.Just use the 'tidy-up' CSS I have posted here many times before. It doesn't require any special software - just save it in a file and point Opera at it (right-click page>>edit site prefs>>display>>my style sheet). Because Opera doesn't load hidden external resources, the problem is completely bypassed and PressF1 is fast again. /*remove ads and misc branding clutter, clean up layout */ .fairfax_nav, #jcornerSmall, #jcornerBig, #advert-banner, #header, #navigation, #page-peel-right-6, .replacethis, .sponsored_links, table[width="160"], td[width="180"], td[width="170"], td[width="300"], div[align="center"] a[target="_new"], div[onmouseover="peel()"], img[alt="PC World Forums"], embed[name="jcornerSmallObject"], embed[umode="transparent"], div embed, object {display: none;}Note: Replace 'replacethis' above with 't f o o t' (minus the spaces) - for whatever reason vbulletin is munching up my post.

2008-01-26 03:22:00 | Thats weird. I have FF2 with AdBlock and No Script and I've never run into issues with PressF1. So theres too many things loading on this site? I still don't get all this hosts and CSS talk above. | beeswax34 (63) | |
2008-01-26 03:31:00 | You don't have issues because you use NoScript/AdBlock. NoScript prevents the ad scripts from even loading. If you did let them load, Adblock nukes them. | Erayd (23) | |

2008-01-26 04:09:00 | Interesting . . . . . I didn't comment in the first thread, but will do so now . I was going through the 'it's just me' syndrome, but nice in a way to see it's not . I have all but given up on PF1 and these forums of late due to the problems mentioned here . Not by choice, but because navigating around was getting ridiculous . I'm using Opera, and as has been indicated by others, no other web page/s cause the difficulties these one's do, and the only way to get between pages is to push F5 repeatedly to have the progress bar to move when opening a page . I don't know what a 'Host File' is, and care even less . I don't beleive I should be making changes to my PC or 'files' just to have the 'privilege' of being able to view what I assume are still very good forums . I have no intention of changing my browser, or using ad-blocking software etc etc to be able to view these pages . Not when every other site I go to is working fine . If whomever or whatever wants to make it all-but-impossible for me to view these forums, then so be it . . . . . . . . there are plenty of others . Your comment Thomas01 speaks volumes . Just my :2cents: worth . AB  AAh got it at last - took ages trying to be able to reply . My success rate is now about 30% if lucky and I am unable to see any pattern . I also do not know what a host file is . I do not want to mess about changing things . Can I suggest that people do what I did - try ringing the 0800 number (in PCWorld) . Like me you will probably be met with a response that I would expect from the corner Dairy . i . e . friendly, puzzled, dunno what to do . Tom PS I do hope they fix it . I enjoy the forums .

2008-01-26 06:02:00 | The Mods cant help here, its Jan we need! Come out, come out where every you are Jan! Jan is probably still on holiday, eating celebratory Reindeer, Rakfish and Gravlax? while drinking Juleøl and mjød, and checking out hot blonde chicks whilst wearing a horned helmet and Yodelling Actually my theory is if I get my scandinavian counties mixed up enough he will have to respond, sort of like calling a Canadian a Yank, and much safer than calling a Scotsman English

2008-01-27 21:42:00 | There has been some sort of improvement this last couple of days. I can generally get on now, or move around if I am prepared to wait for ages and continually press the F5 key (why that should make a difference is beyond me!). Tom
