633243 2008-01-23 18:46:00 I have burned my mp3 collection to single layer DVD (1400 tracks, 4.37 GB).
This DVD will play on a few of my friends stand-alone DVD players but not
on others - 3 out of 6. All of the players are mp3 compatible and play CD-R
containing 260 tracks. The disc will play on all of their PCs but their DVD
players throw up "invalid disc" or "wrong disc".

I have tried several brands of blank media, in both + and - formats without
improvement and always ensure the burn is finalised / closed.
So far, I have used Windows Media Centre & Tesco Easy Burn on a hi spec PC
without success. It appears to be a case of Pot Luck which player the disc is
inserted into. I know that if I split the tracks onto 6 CD-R I would have no
playing problems but the advantages of the large compilation on 1 disc is lost.

Could it be that some of the player manufacturers have not included registries
large enough to accomidate so many tracks, (cheap chips) ?, or is there another reason I haven't figured out.
I would love to find an answer to this. Is there anybody out there who has overcome this problem and could offer some advice or recommendations ?

Kind regards, Blanco.

633244 2008-01-23 20:09:00 It just depends on the brand/model of DVD player as to whether it will read DVDs with data on it.

The newer the player, the more likely it will read the mp3s on a DVD - it would be a feature of an updated chipset in the player.

633245 2008-01-23 21:11:00 Does the program have an option like book type settings?

Like Nero has??

If it does, change it to DVD.

It may make it more compatible with the other DVD players

633246 2008-01-24 00:06:00 Speedy Gonzales,

Thanks for your quick reponse.
Haven't used Nero since Vers. 5.5.
I'm now using Vista and thinking of
getting Nero 8 but it remains to see
if it will solve the problem.
Bythe way, the three players which
failed were newer than those that
were OK. Crazy!

633247 2008-01-24 00:14:00 I dont know about any other program, I've only used Nero recently for DVD's .

The booktype option (before you go to burn it in Nerovision), if you change it to DVD, is meant to make it more compatible with any DVD player .

Normally its on Automatic (which makes a difference) .

I've used this option, but I havent got another standalone DVD player, to see if it'll play it .

I had a DVD pretty much brand new as well . And it was dearer than the stereo I've got now . It wouldnt play any of the DVD's I burned either .

But the stereo I've got now, plays anything I burn to cd or dvd .

633248 2008-01-24 01:33:00 Interesting one..As I want to burn mp3's on a DVD. Visiting other forums, others have had problems. One reason being that dvd players are optimized to play dvd films, and not so much mp3 DVD's. Most players it seems are optimized for cd mp3's though. Though I recall a forum (In the USA) where members would update the firmware in their stand alone dvd players to make them more compatible for different files types, adding commands, etc... kahawai chaser (3545)
633249 2008-02-13 11:41:00 Haven't found a solution yet. Will let
you know if I do.
Meantime, what do you reckon on
Wales for the 6 Nations Grand Slam ?
Wouldn't stand a chance if NZ were in
it and could come unstuck against
France.

633250 2008-02-13 23:32:00 I sent my music collection to DVD and have no problem with them not registering in stand alone DVD players. You get to see all the Albums/tracks info, much like on computer.
I use Nero7 to do the burning of the 4.7GB DVD's. Either DVD + or -,preferably DVD-R.
Having opened Nero & set it to DVD, I choose to make a Data DVD.This opens up Nero Express from where you are able to add folders, single files etc.
Once all added and inserted dvd medium to burner, click burn and soon after have the item that I.ve had no trouble with as of yet. If your tracks are mp3 format they are still the same on the burnt copy.
I guess that another burning program would produce the same result if it allows the making of a Data DVD. I did it with cd's and got 12 hours of music stored on them in Data format, but they only play on a computer or a DVD player;comp. or stand alone.
good luck

633251 2008-02-14 12:25:00 to GZA,

How many standalone players have you tried
your mp3 DVD in? I'll be very surprised if you
get 100% success.
My tracks have been burned same way as yours
but only play on 3 out of 6 players I've tried,
the faied players showing " Invalid disc" or
"Wrong disc", using the very same disc in all
cases. All 6 DVD units are known to be mp3
compatible and will play mp3 on CD-R.

The successful units play approx 85 hours of
tracks, all 128 kbps, volume levelled and
ID3 tagged. Some of my mates are disappointed.
A quick word on Copyright.........B-ll-c-s!

633252 2008-02-14 20:16:00 It's all dependant on the firmware or capabilities of the DVD player. Pretty much all of the new players will play CD-Rs with mp3s, but as has been the case here not many will play DVD-Rs.
The booktype mentioned earlier, was mainly for getting DVD+Rs working on older players.

Basically, there's not much you can do to get it working - either the player will or it won't. If it's something you really need, get a player that will happily play the DVDs.
