| 634330 | 2008-01-27 04:27:00 | Can MPG files be converted to a more compressed format? I've recorded a 4 min clip and it takes up 50 megs. Just wondering because as we know .mp3's are much more compact than .wav |

| 634333 | 2008-01-27 07:11:00 | Virtualdub. Free, uber powerful. And the single best tool ever made for basic editing. Also does encoding, So you could load in your file, lop the piece off the end, then encode the saved footage in a more compressed format, Though remeber each time yu mess with her, You lose quality, so preserve the original file until you are 100 percent positive you have finished. |

| 634334 | 2008-01-27 07:42:00 | Can MPG files be converted to a more compressed format? No definite answer to that. It depends on what codec you used to make it MPG. Also is it MPEG 1, 2, or 4. It can be one of maybe a dozen formats depending on the codec. The compression of it currently will depend on how it was converted to mpeg as to whether it can be compressed further. Also, even if compressed as MPEG 2 using the same codec can lower it's size just by lowering the quality of it. Lowering the bitrate of any DV will make it smaller. Halving the frame size will also make the file smaller. Doing all this stuff will however lower the quality of the video. autoGK and Virtualdub are only a couple of many programs that can reduce the size. Take a look on http://www.videohelp.com/ and read up on other people's views. Links to tools on there also. |
