634315 2008-01-27 06:44:00 Just done a measure up, My screen is 3.6m across the diagonal, or, if you prefer, 142 inch.

My lazy boy is 3.3 m away from the screen.

Dunno about any rule of thumb, But she works perfectly.

634316 2008-01-27 09:23:00 Yep - my viewing distance would be about 2.3m and my 42" plasma is fine for the day to day stuff but the 100" screen which pops out of the ceiling in front of the plasma is the ducks nuts for movies and sport. And my viewing distance remains 2.3m even when watching the biggie!!!

Oh - BTW - keep away from Sony (overpriced IMHO) - Samsung and Toshiba do a nice LCD :2cents:

634317 2008-02-01 08:22:00 What are thoughts on plasma versus lcd?

What screen refresh and other specs should i be looking for??

634318 2008-02-01 08:37:00 I own both a LCD, Plasma and a (hd) projector.

Plasma (42" Panasonic) is awesome for movies (have surround sound too), suburb colour and everything looks great.

LCD (27" Phillips) this one is just for the bedroom and normal tv looks great on it, movies don't look AS good (imo) but I think gaming is better.

Projector (110+" Panasonic) have a room dedicated to this with some good surround sound, really good for the Xbox 360...but you're not planning to buy a projector.

For a everyday, used quite often, general tv I'd say LCD. Plasmas use a lot of power and can produce a lot of heat if used a lot, plus I THINK they may last longer.

Plasma for a good movie here or there, or if you don't use your tv all that much and want it looking like a treat.

634319 2008-02-01 08:49:00 Dare I speculate that the missus is interested in slightly more than just the viewing distance here?

if you are referring to the cost then nope I/we can easily afford one......
