634278 2008-01-27 01:20:00 Hi, i use Firefox, but for updating my windows stuff it seems easier to have windows explorer to do that. My Internet Explorer however is broken. I can redownload it, but will it then install itself in the default location? i do not want to have a broken Internet Explorer on my disk as well as aworking version in a completely different directory.
Thanks for help!

634279 2008-01-27 01:38:00 It should install in the same folder.

Depending on which version is installed, (I think IE 6 had it cant remember, a repair option under its name in add/remove programs)??

It doesnt look like IE 7 has this tho.

634280 2008-01-27 01:45:00 Try using the system file checker to rebuild IE
support.microsoft.com
you'll need your OS disk.
Or try opening IE, go to tools>internet options>advanced (tab)>reset IE.

634281 2008-01-27 01:49:00 Alternatively, download the IE Tab extension to Firefox -- allows you to access the Windows Update site using FF :) davehartley (3487)
634282 2008-01-27 02:45:00 You can kind of remove IE from XP , open control panel/add remove programs / on the left is " add Remove windows Components" untick IE, click OK, takes a few seconds but remove IE.

Best to reboot, then do the same again to put it back. If this is left unticked you can install IE7, but it wont show until reticked.

634283 2008-01-27 07:46:00 Thanks guys,

IEtabs is funny, even after updating the plugin it will not work anymore since the last time I updated Firefox. That is true for many of the FF add-ins.
I will hence try to re-download as I would have to go and search for the Vista disk (OEM). Can not open IE anymore, so regretfully can not go to do the repair option.

Cheers

634284 2008-01-27 09:33:00 IE tab in Firefox relies on IE working.

As I remember if you go to add/remove programs and try to remove IE in the MS section you will get the repair option then.

634286 2008-01-27 20:39:00 You can download old versions of IE here (www.oldversion.com) if you really need to.

Try the repair option first though.
