2008-01-30 06:13:00 | I've just bought one:eek: I've had a whole heap of DSE vouchers, which I got for Christmas, burning a hole in my pocket; then I read in my latest PCW a review on these machines, and thought "I should look at that. It'll fit in our camera bag. Ideal when we travel". Anyway, so far I quite like what I see. It found my wireless network without a glitch:thumbs:

When I went to collect the mail this morning, about 70 odd metres from the house, I took it with me and it picked up my network, no problem . I must get a really compact headset for it and a large capacity pen drive for extra storage (that would be my main criticism-but not an insurmountable problem) . |

2008-01-30 21:02:00 | What i found best. Was a laptop Harddrive (2.5) in an external drive, i had a 20gb HDD connected to my Eee PC with WIndows XP on it.

2008-01-30 21:07:00 | Thinking of getting one myself. Thought of getting a big capacity SD drive, and wondered if it's possible to format it so that it acts as a drive. A few concerns though. No CD drive right? How do you install word etc? I know it comes with open office, but I've always found it useless for most of my purposes. Also, can you buy them online? I noticed that Asus aren't online retailers :(. I'm wondering if I should hold out a little until they bring newer models out in NZ. an 8gig SSD would help ease the pain a tad. How annoying is the tiny screen? | Thebananamonkey (7741) | |

2008-01-30 23:07:00 | I condsidered getting one, But decided against it based on the fact that for $250 extra I could get a laptop loaded with all the bells and whistles, and simply install linux..... | Metla (12) | |
2008-01-30 23:17:00 | Yeah... wondering about that. It is nice and small though. How robust are they? Should I just wait until they've 'matured' a bit, and I can get one that I can type on AND read the screen? Also, maybe I'll wait till SSD's come down in price, and I can get more than my flash drive worth. Looks good. But I think I got hooked on a gimmick. It's small, it's cool. But it's probably slow as hell, and I can't be bothered making a million compromises just to have the latest tech.
