635260 2008-01-30 00:42:00 Hi all you home theatre/media centre whizzes. I am looking for a relatively cheap way to connect my media centre "box" (still a work in progress) to my home theatre amp. Can anyone suggest a good sound card that has some sort of digital out? Preferably optical as I have a couple of cables for that already but can go coax if necessary. I only really need 5.1 support for now. I am running vista ultimate 32bit. mattv (11815)
635261 2008-01-30 07:06:00 I am looking at something like this www.ascent.co.nz but am not sure about the Vista support (ie the Open AL) and would really prefer a PCI card for around the same money. Any suggestions? mattv (11815)
635262 2008-01-30 07:20:00 I've got a Winfast 6x soundcard (PCI) with optical in/out (RCA and digital in/out).

Its not installed at the mo tho. Just cant find the site, (I think its Leadtek), to see if its got drivers for Vista.

635263 2008-01-30 07:25:00 I was about to buy one of the X-fi cards for my media centre, when I went to buy one I noticed for $6 I could buy an S/PDIF optical header card for my mobo/onboard audio.

Had to have a go, Shes stunning.

I personally wouldn't buy old tech like a Soundblaster, Just way to old.

635264 2008-01-30 07:31:00 ive spent a bit of time trying to get the best setup with my sony home theatre and pc. at the moment im running a fatality series X-fi sound card with optical to my amp but it is onyl slightly if at all better than co-ax/optical out of any new mobo so if I was you Id buy the the cheapest pci soundcard that has an optical out, thats assuming your mobo doesnt already have optical or co-ax out. 635265 2008-06-12 02:21:00 I bought the following for only $12

www.qmb.co.nz

It should do the job provided your motherboard has a SPDIF terminal.
