634960 2008-01-29 01:46:00 Hey, Im having a big issue with my pc,
every time I try to play Halo, Bf1942, or Rise of nations the computer restarts itself
showing a 'Stop:' error message.
Odd because these games have worked before on here, and the computer can still play Unreal Tournament 2004 on full graphics detail.
I would do a system restore but I don't remember when It began giving trouble, and I can't remember what/if I have changed anything.

Heres my system specs:

Nvidia Geforce 4 mx 440 with AGP 8x
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 0 AuthenticAMD ~1674 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Award Software International, Inc. F2, 10/08/2004

Total Physical Memory 1,280.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 767.60 MB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB

Stop error message:

Youtube showing error: (sorry about the link, moderators can remove it if necessary)

www.youtube.com

On this link it shows my problem and a comment says that
'there is a known issue with AMD + XP + Nvidia chips ??' more info?

If you have any questions or need more info on my pc etc, please ask.
I also have minidump files that a smart cookie could analyse.

Thanks for your help. :)

634961 2008-01-29 02:47:00 CAUSE

This issue may occur if both of the following conditions are true: •Your computer has a video adapter that is based on an NVIDIA chip set.•Your video adapter drivers are corrupted or outdated.

634962 2008-01-29 03:03:00 Thanks for the reply:

Nvidia doesn't have any more updates for my card,
and its odd because they've worked before, while the Nvidia chip set was installed.

Thanks

634963 2008-01-29 03:08:00 did you try removing and re-installing them ?

634964 2008-01-29 03:26:00 Oh, I have tried re-installing the video card drivers, not too sure of what version to revert to.

Thanks

634965 2008-01-29 05:30:00 Nope didn't work :(

thanks

634966 2008-01-29 05:56:00 I dont think anyone here knows how to read those minidump files.

Well theyre gibberish to me.

What version of Halo was installed? 3?

I know with the Xbox version, version 3 was known to crash.

And someone was suing MS coz of it.

Look in control panel / admin tools / event viewer. Under app and system for the times it crashed. See if this gives you more info.

634967 2008-01-29 05:59:00 If you look down the bottom of the forum page, you'll see in the box Posting Rules that you cant post attachments. Try, if the files not too big, to copy/paste it from Notepad into your next post.
Did you know/realise that the nvidia chipset (on the motherboard) and the nvidia video card are two separate things with different drivers for each, perhaps update both (or try the originals?)
Also check that your card is fitted firmly into its slot, connections could be starting to corrode, try taking it out and refitting: does the card have a fan (is it clean/going?) or a heatsink only (clean/not loose on card?).
Could also be motherboard(leaking capacitors)/ram/powersupply/cpu overheating problem?

634968 2008-01-29 07:32:00 The original halo for pc.
I didn't know that they were two different things, where do I find the two different drivers under device manager? The fan is spinning, and the card is correctly attached. I'll edit my post with a fresh piece of a crash dump.

Thanks for the help

634969 2008-01-29 07:57:00 The drivers will be listed under Add & Remove Programs in Control Panel, they may be under the same heading e.g "Nvidia drivers", (not until you click on that heading will you see the separate drivers), to install a new video driver you need to uninstall the old one first, probably pay to do that with the motherboard drivers too. Use your original video and mother board driver cds (do motherboard first), then update them if you want if/when you get the comp running right.:D
What brand/model motherboard do you have?
