634829 2008-01-29 10:34:00 Not a very useful comment Speedy.
If a website does not display and load as intended it is not up to users to apply
blocks, patches and host files so it can be used.

There is obviously something abnormal with this site at the moment and needs to be fixed as web sites that don't load are the biggest turn off for internet users.

No wait, Speedy was right on the money. Digby wants a solution, we've all complained, its going to take time (loads!) and in the meantime you could just block AdBureau. That would be the same as PCWorld fixing things except faster.

634830 2008-01-29 12:54:00 My elderly comp is playing up anyway.
It's allowing me only a few minutes at a time on the internet.
So the way PF1's behaving means I have to choose between an email & here.

Afraid that means PF1 gets a miss until fixed.

(For comp fix, am considering an Asus Eee instead, once Dick Smith has back in stock)

634831 2008-01-29 17:38:00 I have been getting up and making a coffee while waiting for the pages to load. Bit like an ad break on TV.

Unfortunately I can only have so many cups a day.

Pretty bad really - this is a forum for, and by computer enthusiasts, offering help and interesting discussions. I would have thought the site would work OK.

634832 2008-01-29 18:23:00 PressF1 is slow? I never noticed. Adblock probably helped. :D pcuser42 (130)
634833 2008-01-29 18:44:00 I came back from the Parachute Music Festival, thought it might just be me...

Then saw in the little tray down the bottom what it was waiting on and was thoroughly un-impressed!

Blocked the ads just by right-clicking them on Firefox (After I finally got a page to load on its 5th retry).

Didnt wanna hafta block the ads here, but its just un-usable otherwise :(

BTW Laura, go for the EeePC :D Many stores in Auckland have both white & black in-stock.. chat to your DSE store, they may be able to get one shipped down for ya, or order online :) Goto DSE.co.nz and look up XC5818

634834 2008-01-29 19:54:00 No problem here. :D

Do they still have that annoying pull down Add in the top right hand corner?

I installed the programme recommended in the thread about that Add (can’t remember what the programme was called) and my surfing in general has improved 100 fold.

We live in a world where if you want something done, then you best do it yourself. ;)

634835 2008-01-29 19:58:00 I still get semi-frequent time-outs (Once outta every 5-6 threads) when trying to open pages, even with Inl.Adbureau.net blocked :-/ Chilling_Silence (9)
634836 2008-01-29 23:09:00 Don't know if you read the other thread where I posted my suggestion of sticking these in your hosts file - no matter what OS or browser(s) you use.
.... but I'm sure you knew that already :)

634837 2008-01-30 00:22:00 The slow-down over the past week has been caused by the third-party company that serves our ads, Accipter. Accipter has still not been able to explain the problem. We have now turned off ads on Press F1 while we wait for the problem to be resolved. Believe me, it's driven us around the bend too. We slam our keyboards against our desks, and apologise to all F1 members. Chris Keall (10417)
634838 2008-01-30 01:30:00 Ah this is what a forum should work and look like. I think the ads should be on the main forum page, but not in the forum itself.
