635183 2008-01-29 23:26:00 Hi,
When i right click files it takes a good 30 seconds for the context menu to appear and also the same for opening the files. This doesn't happen when right clicking folders, only files, it also doesn't happen when right clicking exe files. I've found that if i disable the local area network then it works fine when right-clicking them.
I've googled and found various sites including this (windowsxp.mvps.org) which i thought would solve my problem but it hasn't.
when searching the registry i couldn't find any strings with "\\" in them.
There isn't a lot in the context menu, only open with notepad++, winrar and winamp are installed but they are local.

has anyone experienced this before?

i would also like to know the correct pronunciation of 'cache'? lol

Cheers.

635186 2008-01-29 23:40:00 This may help (windowsxp.mvps.org)

Looks like this program Shellexview may fix it.

Which is here (www.nirsoft.net)

635187 2008-01-29 23:52:00 I'm looking at shellmenuview now. in the filename paths i can't see anything referring to a network share or drive mOOseCaNNoN (13319)
635188 2008-01-30 00:21:00 no - you have to sort them into ms and non ms menu-handlers then disable the non ms and see if it fixes the prob.
If it does, you then have to progressevly turn them on again and find out exactly which one is causing the delay, leave that off and turn the rest back on
Trouble is it seems that logging off between tries may not work consistenly, so you may have to reboot to test the right click delay each time.

Quickest way is to work with half at a time - turn half off - reboot - try right click - if still slow, turn half the remaining off - reboot - try right click etc etc till a process of elimination gives you the problematic one
