636310 2008-02-01 17:41:00 I booted up yesterday morning and everything started normally. My email downloaded and I was able to update some securities prices. I then clicked on my Firefox Browser and could not get any page to come up. After some searching, I found a code 31 on my nVidia network adapter card. I am running Vista premium on an HP AMD dual core athlon machine.

Might help.

This may also help (www.microsoft.com)

Looks like it may have something to do with IPv6, which Vista uses by default.

636312 2008-02-01 20:51:00 Thanks for responding Speedy.

I am not familiar with Teredo or IPv6 and will have to read up on it. I went into Device Manager looking for the network adapter by nVidia and noticed that it and the Teredo had the yellow triangle with !.

The other sites you listed seem to suggest that you think I may have some malware or trojan. I do regularly run Adaware and Norton and have not found any problems.

636313 2008-02-01 20:54:00 P.S. Since I cannot get on line at home, I have to travel a couple of miles to my daughter's house to log on. So my responses won't be immediate. jetrobert (13351)

636315 2008-02-02 19:07:00 Speedy,

One of the sites you recommended suggested disabling IPv6 by changing the registry.

What would be the downside of this? And would it affect the yellow exclamation point on the nvidia network adapter, or would I still be in the same place?

Well AFAIK XP uses IPv4 not 6.

And most people on this forum disable IPv6, in Vista. If they network to an XP PC.

Dont know if they disable it in the registry tho. So, it probably wont hurt anything. I dont use Vista myself, so dont know WHAT it'll do disabling IPv6 in the registry.

After that delete the ! and reboot, see what happens.

This will confirm if the problem is just with the browser or with XP itself

636318 2008-02-04 21:52:00 The Solution!

After numerous attempts to correct this problem, the one that finally worked was to download (from HP support) the executable file containing the Nvidia network card drivers for XP and overwriting the existing files on the PC. After reinstalling the drivers, connectivity was reestablished. Interesting that the drivers executable for Vista would not work. Trying to restore the system back to a date prior to the problem was unsucessful. Also interesting is that the problem occurred just after Microsoft installed an automatic update. Also, downloading the driver files from Nvidia and trying to install them was not successful.

636319 2008-02-04 23:19:00 set your updates to 'download but let me install them'........NOT automatic and when you GET the updates DONT use 'express' use 'custom' that'll enable you to SEE exactly what updates they're offering and DONT install driver updates from MS I've seen them stuff up systems far too many times...... drcspy (146)
