636005 2008-01-31 18:37:00 I use an accounting program ( cashbook complete ) that sends out invoices as in a html style template - all very tidy and easy for the client to print.

However I've found that xtra are blocking my emails ( presumably they are being tagged as spam ) and my clients are not getting their invoices.

I was wondering why I had so many slow payers in the last few months :)
Turned out all of the non-payers were Xtra clients and had never received my invoices.

How do I get Xtra to un-spam me?

A test email to an affected Xtra client goes through ok so that means my email address is not blacklisted as such .
It must be the content of the pro-forma invoices being picked on by Xtra's spam filters .

According to Xtra's spam help page ( . xtra . co . nz/help/0,,4155-7824012,00 . html" target="_blank">www . xtra . co . nz) I need to get all my clients to login to webmail and unspam my invoices . . yeah right - like they dont have better things to do . .

On the upside - I found if I send the invoice as a . pdf attachment it goes through ( so far )

Now I'm just waiting for the calls saying "whats this thing you've sent me, I cant open it" :stare:

636008 2008-01-31 20:31:00 HTML content in emails is one of the things that ISP spam filters look at.
Even customer spam setting or mail clients may be set to block HTML emails.

You are much better off by sending in PDF format.

636009 2008-01-31 22:07:00 Don't use Xtra.

Yes pctek - I do promote that view to my clients ( I dont personally use xtra OR telecom for anything ) but many businesses are reluctant to go through the 'hassle' of changing ISP's even though they readily admit their current one is crap.

636010 2008-01-31 22:17:00 racepics you're not with Xnet by any chance are you?

I have the same problem sending pdf copies of invoices to Xtra customers from Quickbooks.

I'm still waiting for Xnet to reply to my two emails in regards to this problem.

The weird problem with my Xtra customers is that the email is not even marked as Spam and stuck in the Spam folder.
I was at one of the Xtra customers place and got them to log in to the webmail and we went through the Spam folder and my emails weren't even in there.
They have just dissappeared and I get no bounce back or anything.

636011 2008-01-31 22:29:00 Yeah I use that excuse when I forget to pay someone - 'oh sorry your email must have ended up in spam folder - I will get onto it now". A lot better than "the cheques in the mail" sam m (517)
636012 2008-01-31 23:12:00 Isn't technology wonderful? :D

HTML makes it easy to send an invoice to customers. HTML can do other things for people with nefarious intent, so HTML attachments are treated with suspicion by SPAM filters. (An HTML file is code which is executed.)

Invoices presented as PDF files should be safer, but I wonder how long it will be before Xtra discover that a PDF file contains executable code too. ;)

And of course, customers are being given code which produces an invoice. What's to stop them modifying the code? I like the idea of 'write your own bill".

It s becuase they are using Yahoos free email system, that will blacklist anything it thinks could be spam . It is all administered offshore, so xtra have little control over it . I have complained to xtra a number of times about it . It does also depend on your email address and who hosts it, and if you are using a domain name bases email address or not .
