635961 2008-01-31 17:15:00 Fight for it. FYI, just pointing out the highest rating story on our home page at present: In a classic love/hate Microsoft manoeuvre, our US sister publication Infoworld has launched a petition to save Windows XP.

XP received a stay of execution earlier this year, but is now officially due for the chop on June 30. That means just as New Zealand was the first in the world to get it, we'll be first to lose it.

Actually, XP's already difficult to find. I've been window shopping for a new laptop recently, following an alcohol-related injury (blogs.pcworld.co.nz), with XP as the OS requirement (personally I'd go for Vista, which has a clear lead in security, reliability and every other area, besides price ... however, our owner disagrees). I've found on most notebook manufacturer's sites, XP is only available on a handful of corporate models. That's not helpful for the many companies, like our publisher, who are still a long way from upgrading beyond XP (a special downgrade programme will remain after June 30 for volume buyers).

Anyhow, read more about the Save XP campaign here (pcworld.co.nz). And participate in our Vista vs XP Quick Poll on our home page (http://pcworld.co.nz) and be in to win a 4GB Ducati Flash Drive.

Well ASUS still have a number of models with XP Pro.
