637499 2008-02-04 23:02:00 Is there anything you can do to turn the "do you want to restart" question off after windows has updated? I don't really want to turn windows update off, I just don't want to have that annoying popup distract me from whatever I'm doing at the time. I just want it to go away and let me go about business as usual, I'll restart in my own time.

So... any registry fixes/tick boxes that I've overlooked? Running XP Home. :)

637500 2008-02-04 23:10:00 Give this GPO a try:

Start -> Run -> gpedit . msc -> Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update -> Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations

Good ole Microsoft . . . hiding all the fun bits away!!

637501 2008-02-04 23:11:00 Turn automatic updates off. :D

I dunno about a reg hack or GPedit thing, theres probably one out there somewhere.

Edit - try that!! ^^

637502 2008-02-04 23:12:00 It doesnt turn windows update off.

It wants to restart because some files in use may have been overwritten by the update/s.

Just click on no.

637504 2008-02-04 23:15:00 When you click no you're cued every 5min for a restart. Really annoying if you're playing games. Usually causes comp to freeze. Or is there a way to change the re-prompt time? Maybe I'll just google it. Should have done that first. Thebananamonkey (7741)
637505 2008-02-04 23:16:00 if there isn't a 'no' button just drag the box offscreen and ignore it...... drcspy (146)
637506 2008-02-04 23:17:00 The box has a timer in it. If you ignore it then it restarts your comp anyway. Thebananamonkey (7741)
637507 2008-02-04 23:19:00 What about just setting Automatic Updates to download updates but only install when you say so - Second option on the list.

That way you can install the updates when you know you won't be using the PC for a while and it can be restarted when finished.

Should this work? I like it doing everything in the background, means I don't have to be bothered with it, I just want it not to nag me when it's done. I know I could turn it off, or only install when I say, but that's not really what I'm asking. I just want to turn the prompt off.
