636947 2008-02-03 06:06:00 Todays question:

When I start Windows XP Pro - I get to a screen which says:

"Windows XP Pro. To begin, check your user name."

How do I get rid of that, and by doing so, get Windows just to open up ready to use?

I must have changed something last week while 'fixing' my wireless networking problems. :(

TIA, as always. I rely on you! :)

636949 2008-02-03 06:14:00 Start, Control panel, User accounts, change the way users logon.

Tick untick the options you want.

I only have one account enabled and mine is set to use Welcome screen and fast user switching.

636950 2008-02-03 06:24:00 Thanks for that - yes that's what I've done. :)

BUT do I need this screen at all?

It didn't use to show up. My 'puter just started, did all it's things without me clicking on anything. I dpn't mind clicking on something, but after I click - then it takes a while to get to usable stage. I tend to 'push the start button' and go away and do something else while it does it's thing. Now I have to relearn to push start, wait and push the logon screen, and THEN go away and come back later... Not a biggy, just nuisance value. :(

636951 2008-02-03 06:49:00 With mine I do get the welcome screen and not get a log in screen.

There again I do not have a password set either as I am the only person here.

Do you have offline files enabled?

636952 2008-02-03 07:00:00 Um - what do you mean by offline files enabled? I'm not getting a log in screen either (at least I've got rid of that!) .

I have recollections of seeing that somewhere during this last week - but can't remember where! Should it be enabled or not?

636953 2008-02-03 19:59:00 Download and install Windows XP PowerToys.

Once installed go to Start>All Programs>PowerToys for Windows XP>TweakUI for Windows XP.

Expand the Logon item and click Autologon. Enter details and reboot.

Yes - I thought that would be the answer to my problems. But sadly no. :(

Oh well - I suppose I can live with it!
