636417 2008-02-02 02:20:00 Can anyone suggest a modem to use for Linux? I have loads of Linux versions but my internal modem is not recognised by any except Xandros v2. I am told I need an external modem. Any help appreciated. Katikati katikati (13355)
636418 2008-02-02 03:00:00 Welcome to PressF1.

For dialup modems, any external serial modem should be fine. You may be able to find a second hand one off TradeMe etc. I used to use a Dynalink 1456VQE. If you are unsure, a quick google of the make/model number and Linux support will help.

For ADSL any external ethernet (not USB) modem will be fine. :)

636419 2008-02-02 03:48:00 Thanks Jen, I will see what is on TradeMe. I went into Dick Smiths earlier and they do have serial modems but the salesperson was not sure it would work.

636420 2008-02-02 04:15:00 I've looked on the DSE website and I cannot see any external serial 56K modems. The model I quoted earlier has been discontinued by Dynalink, but I see their replacement model DY56EXT3 (www.dynalink.co.nz) will also be suitable. PB Technologies has the modem for $84.38 incl GST - see here (www.pbtech.co.nz). Jen (38)

Had a look on TradeMe... this one (www.trademe.co.nz) would definitely suit your needs :) Its the same as the the one I used to use on Linux
