636454 2008-02-02 01:57:00 New system built just before christmas 2007.

Primary drive is a SATA but I also have an IDE with my old windows installation connected.

Issue: When I boot the IDE, the xp boot screen comes on for a fraction of a second and a blue error screen comes up which I assume is because of my video card. It doesn't appear long enough for me to actually read anything at all.

Video card: (MSI) NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

636455 2008-02-02 02:00:00 So whats on the IDE (Is Windows on it), if the SATA is the primary hdd?

And whats the BSOD say?

Whats the stop error say? Does it say the name of a driver? Or other?

Both drives have windows. My sata is my primary drive, but I went into the bios and set my IDE as the 1st drive, begins to boot and I can see the xp logo for not even a second, the blue error screen flashes on. I can see text but its on for on a moment and I can't read it. The computer reboots and tries again.

I have tried to boot in safe mode but it doesn't complete and tries rebooting again. All is fine when I have the SATA attached though.

636457 2008-02-02 02:14:00 if the SATA is the new install and it boots fine, then thats why.

Using the old IDE Drive / Windows without the SATA ( if I read that right) means the hardware is different, and its blue screening because the drivers in the Old OS are completely wrong for the new PC. Its more or less saying - wrong hardware - forget it.!

636458 2008-02-02 02:15:00 Cant be the videocard then, if it boots into Windows with the SATA.

Sounds like there's a prob with the ide hdd, / install on it, or its cable.

What the brand/model of the mobo?

636459 2008-02-02 02:22:00 Stop it Restarting. Then you can read the BSOD. pctek (84)

636461 2008-02-02 02:25:00 Would it be correct to say the Old IDE Drive was in a different PC / hardware? If so what was the Old Board. wainuitech (129)
636462 2008-02-02 02:26:00 So whats the diff in the installs on the SATA, and the IDE??

Are they different versions of Windows? Both XP?

There is no PK5C by the looks of it.
