637007 2008-02-08 04:47:00 Performance Results Mixed with Vista Service Pack 1
Files copied faster in our initial tests, but other performance was slightly slower with the SP1 installed.

637010 2008-02-09 08:40:00 People in a hurry to get SP1 or as its pointed out RC2 MAY be doing so and in for possible trouble. TIME BOMBS - Read This Forum (bink.nu) esp the first comment, last two lines
Your right to use these builds will expire upon Microsoft’s commercial release of SP1 to the public.

The last comment said theres no time bomb but can you really be positive, esp with known driver issues ?

637011 2008-02-09 10:08:00 RTM means Released To Manufacturing so it will be the final for now until more problems appear.

I posted this because one of our members was in some confusion over this and what version he actually had.

The RTM version is on Torrents now. Rumour is MS wants it that way to ease load on their servers.

RTM means it is the final version & won't be changed on release.

I would doubt that very much. MS doesn't like their updates out on random sites as you can't trust that it is the genuine article.

But if you can't wait another 4-5 weeks, get it off a torrent. Otherwise, wait until MS sorts out the driver problems & releases in March.

637013 2008-02-10 20:38:00 RTM means it is the final version & won't be changed on release. Generally speaking you are right - but in this case with SP1 if you read the article posted by speedy in post #4 the RTM has only been released to certain manufactures.

There is a known driver issue with some drivers, MS are not saying which ones - so going by that, the manufactures that have SP1 will know the drivers concerned and have fixes, or work around.

The general public wont get SP1 from MS until these driver issues have been sorted.
If you read the whole article it actually says updating through windows Update - if it discovers a persons PC has these drivers then they wont automatically be offered SP1 as a auto update until the problem is resolved.
