312756 2005-01-10 20:48:00 even a thread that is from 1998 and they are askin a question about a 486? ;)

There are still 486 servers IN service, in this country .

As I have mentioned there is also something else happening, brouser erro, operator fault??

Because more than once I have tried to go from one thread to another on page 1 and ended up in a very old thread not on page 1 ?????

Instaed of locking auto enter a stick last post "Last posted in on" in red .

Not to hard to do to threads over three months old . As the search is better the archive becomes of greater value .

Hopefully the FAQ section and the Howtos will soon be better indexed, perhaps in their own area now that everyone is possibly back from the season break's .

312757 2005-01-10 20:57:00 Nothing wrong with re-opening questions about older equipment. I mean, I have a 1932 radio still working ;) , but reopening an old thread about comparing US and NZ prices from over 2 years ago, and answering, and then quoting todays prices as though it is relevant, is getting a bit silly. I actually quite enjoyed that for a laugh, both the "replies" and the original posts . Don't you guys like trips down Nostalgia Lane? :p

I am in two minds as to whether the old threads ought to be locked . Yesterday I replied to a post in a thread that had been dragged up from the murky depths and was threatening to slip back down again with no responses . The person had obviously done a search and found that (long) thread and it made sense to reply in it so he/she could indicate that all the suggestions had been tried . If he/she had created a new thread for the problem it would have been tedious explaining what had been tried, or having all the responders making exactly the same suggestions .

So in that particular case it was acceptable to drag up an old thread but in the majority of other cases it gets silly . I don't think the old threads should be deleted as many are still useful .

312759 2005-01-11 01:36:00 How often does it happen? Once a week? Twice a month?

It's not a problem .

Don't bother about it . "Ignore it and it'll go away" is actually true .
