636921 2008-02-03 04:43:00 okay if you've come to help me with my need for speed 2 problems your out of luck, instead i need some reco's for what overclocking app i should use because my mobo bio doesnt allow for fsb changing (but u can change the multiplier 4 sum reason???) i would also like them to be free, thanks AMD3ALL3THE3WAY3 (116)
636922 2008-02-03 07:36:00 You have that the wrong way around, ALL motherboards can increase FSB, only certain cpu will allow multiplier increases... SolMiester (139)
636923 2008-02-03 19:30:00 I suggest you read up about your hardware and what it can or cannot do before you go overclocking anything... Cause if done incorrectly you can say bye bye to your hardware... The_End_Of_Reality (334)
636924 2008-02-03 21:09:00 ALL motherboards can increase FSB...

Nope. My Dad's old computer only allows for multiplier increases. FSB is locked. You can change multiplier and voltage, but FSB remains the same. Old as Soltek Board. Really dumb.

636925 2008-02-03 21:22:00 Search the net and see if you can find an unlocked BIOS for your board somewhere. Some boards can be overclocked after doing this that can't be before. Thebananamonkey (7741)
636926 2008-02-03 22:00:00 i have checked for bios updates that unlock it but there were none, i have checked my mobo manual and everything and i know where the clear cmos jumper is just in case. Plus what i meant was in my asus mobo's bios i can only change the multiplier but not the fsb, i also can t change the fsb to ram speed ratio, ive searched everywhere! AMD3ALL3THE3WAY3 (116)

Emmmm, really!?....Thats a new one on me, The FSB was the only way to clock the chip back in the day, especially with the original Pentium.....Is that a manufacturers mobo or a off the shelf jobby?

Some manufacturers have bespoke BIOS (like Dell, HP) which lock down boards, otherwise all boards can clock the FSB, seriously!

636928 2008-02-03 22:50:00 i got an ASUS m2n mx se mobo and an amd Athlon X2 4000, all i need is a program to change the fsb, can CPU-Z do it? AMD3ALL3THE3WAY3 (116)
636929 2008-02-03 23:33:00 Well to be honest I'm not hugely in the know about these things. But the BIOS in my dads comp had no settings to change FSB clock speeds. It's a manufacturers MoBo. From Quay in WGTN. I'm sure it's the only way to overclock, but I'd need an unlocked copy of BIOS to do anything about it, but with severely limited experience I had no idea where to go. I just took it apart and wrecked it out of curiosity. It was old, and probably headed that way anyway.

Does anyone know where to take an old PC for recycling? Or do you just take it to the dump? I'm not too big a fan of putting heavy metals into the ground, so I'd rather recycle.

636930 2008-02-03 23:36:00 The board was SL-85DRV3 if you want to check. I looked it up and saw that people had no luck trying to overclock that board. Thebananamonkey (7741)
