638067 2008-02-06 20:46:00 Is it possible to make an automated windows updates CD, or is there a program designed for it?

Or is it still possible in windows XP to install updates from a local source (having downloaded the files through WUD or similar) ?

638068 2008-02-06 23:35:00 Just put the updates on CD.

Or wait for SP3 to come out and slipstream it with XP.

And whatever other updates you want.

638069 2008-02-07 09:08:00 Yeah I could but would prefer an automatic one (like the one MS released in 2004) that can be used for unattended/automatic installation of the updates Agent_24 (57)
638070 2008-02-07 23:12:00 I find a batch file invaluable for this.

For each file, type this command:

cls
echo Now Installing Update number X of X
start /wait filename /quiet /norestart

The /quiet /norestart switches are vital - they tell the update to install without showing any diaogue box (ie unattended/silent) and not to restart the PC when the patch is installed.

Burn the batch file and updates to a CD and watch the updates install themselves. Some of the updates may cough up erros stating "Invalid command line switch" or something like that. If this occurs, just reinstall the updates after the other have ben installed. To find the correct switch, use the filename /? switch on the file. Reburn the CD if neccessary.

638071 2008-02-07 23:16:00 You talking about Autopatcher which unfortunately is no longer available.

Run it after you install XP and then it will update with all patches up to that date.

I do however have a copy of it from just before it was forced to stop by meanysoft.

I think it was October 07. PM me and I will send a copy to you if you want.

638072 2008-02-07 23:32:00 Autopatcher didn't die, it just changed the way it does some things. MS files are downloaded from MS rather than being held elsewhere. PaulD (232)

No I'm not - Windows Updates Downloader (http://www.wud.jcarle.com)
