| 314677 | 2005-01-16 21:04:00 | Isn't technology great! :D Not only do you get to see images and 360 deg views from the probe, you can also listen to a sound file of quote: This recording is a laboratory reconstruction of the sounds heard by Huygens' microphones. Several sound samples, taken at different times during the descent, are here combined together and give a realistic reproduction of what a traveller on board Huygens would have heard during one minute of the descent through Titan's atmosphere. Couldn't hear any Titians calling out "Welcome to our Moon" tho .... :p |

| 314678 | 2005-01-16 23:08:00 | I know it's reflective glory but we should also remember one of the great pioneers of this form of space travel was a New Zealander - William Pickering who died last year. Born in Wellington I believe. | Dally (6292) | ||
| 314679 | 2005-01-16 23:58:00 | They were lucky.;) Very lucky that it took four years to get there. Someone forgot something.:( Doppler effect. The data transfer between the Huygens probe and the Cassini craft would have been unusable. :groan: They were lucky that someone noticed. And they had time to redesign the course. "huygens doppler cockup" to Google will give you links to the story. ("cockup" is the official NASA term). |
