I think not. All of us, when WE were "young men" would have done daft things, it is all part of growing up, of maturing. PJ | Poppa John (284)
| 313924 | 2005-01-14 08:36:00 | I wonder how the people most against him would like it if every little slip up they did was plastered all over every News program, newspaper and radio station the world over... | Edward (31) | ||

He's a public figure who represents England, and like any other celebrity, must be extremely careful as to what they do in public (or anywhere tabloid newspapers can get access to). | somebody (208)

Since when have the Royal Family (should really be the royal family) represented Engerland. I thought they represented Themselves. The Bourgeoisie! :2cents: |

| 313927 | 2005-01-14 10:32:00 | I'm with Somebody. Initially I felt Prince Harry was just having a lark (as he was). But having thought some more, I really can't believe he was so stupid. It is almost by good luck that such uniforms are not worn in Britain today. The Germans came very close to success. Harry is a prince of the most significant royal family on the planet. One of the things his family did was stand fast and rallied the people in the face of the Nazi threat. They could very well have popped off to the US for safety. Harry gets paid by the British taxpayer. He has advantages millions of Brits will never know. So he has to accept responsibilities. Dressing up as a Nazi has got to be about the worst joke he could play. Harry doesn't live alone. He has minders, companions, tutors etc. Some adult must have seen what he was up to but was unable or stop him. No doubt he does not understand, but he is in a family and situation where consequences can be very quickly explained (if he listened) before making a prat of himself. |

I think he was set up by some smart Alec reporter. He was at a private party. How come half the journalists and photographers in London just happen to turn up? It's a wonder that Paul Holmes wasn't there too. Jack |

The Bourgeoisie! :2cents: Yes, it should be the royal family (as I personally don't like them one bit), however they are symbols of England. In any developed country in the world, you mention "Prince Harry", people immediately know you're referring to the english royal family, and more importantly, the country of England. He like other royals were born into a position of responsibility, even though they don't have the power as they would have in ancient times, they still symbolise and represent their nation. British Tabloid newspapers are very invasive, and get into the private lives of just about everyone famous. Certainly Harry would have known this from past experiences, so he should know to be more careful of what he does outside the privacy of his own home, be it a private event or not. |

| 313931 | 2005-01-14 18:36:00 | Just to set a couple of facts straight : - there were no reporters or 'photographers' at the party, the photos were taken by other guests on their cell phones (some friends huh? not really friends but Harry mistakenly assumed he was in good company) - there were adults with him when he got changed at the party, albeit his minders who were in no position (form an employment perspective) to tell him what is, or is not, an appropriate costume to wear - William and an adult were with Harry at the time he chose his costume and no-one raised any objections then - let's not forget that the British royal family are of German(ic?) descent (so it might not have been a big leap of logic for Harry) - and lastly, they are irrelevant outside of the Western world - they are not as important as the press make out I'm no Royalist but the UK newspapaers have been rabid over their treatment of Harry and as a matter of principle I'm with PJ on this one. No it wasn't the smartest thing to do but what business is it of ours? It's just another lame attempt to sell more supposed 'news'. "Let him without sin..." (you know the rest) |

And the thousands of stupid poms who stand for hours on the footpath to watch them drive past are even sillier. What made me so anti-royalty was way back when Edward was not allowed to marry a divorced woman. The Princess Margaret could not marry a divorced man. Ruined her entire life. BUT it was OK for Elizabeth to marry a Greek who's two sisters were married to Gestapo officers. And now Charlie breaks up another man's marriage and takes his wife for a mistress. Ane even wants to marry her! And don't our NZ parliamentarians swear an oath of alliance to them. Makes me sick even thinking about them. Jack |
