313839 2005-01-14 04:35:00 Does anyone own this phone?

Any comments about it? Positve/Negative, I don't mind as I'm thinking of getting one and want to hear about other people's experiences with it.

313840 2005-01-14 08:38:00 A family member has the version without the camera and is very happy with it apart from the battery life which is a bit shorter than expected. Even though it does get a lot of use with text messaging it needs to be recharged every couple of days.

Apart from that it seems to be a good phone. I wouldn't mind one myself actually, especially since the speech is nice and clear on it.

313841 2005-01-14 08:51:00 yeah one of my mates has these phones its actually pretty cool, the camera can turn over and face forward or backward

foxy, did your family member charge up the battery when they first got it and then left it to go flat by itself and then start to use it? aparently that makes it last longer, or you could get a better battery that will last longer, i see them on trade me all the time for the nokia's (they might have them available for other brands) and they last way longer, maybe thats something for your family member :)

No, I don't think so. He would have been in too much of a rush to use it. :D

The info about longer lasting batteries is interesting, I will pass it on. Thanks. :)

313843 2005-01-14 09:48:00 Do you really need to upgrade? If you 'have to' have Telecom then I'd suggest you wait a while for 3G to lower in price. If your willing to go Vodafone, surely!, $249 can buy more than this! ~sy~ (95)
313844 2005-01-14 09:55:00 im guessing somebody is a txter, so $10 texting would be ideal, its cheaper than vodaphone Prescott (11)
313845 2005-01-14 10:00:00 Fair enough, but then saying so, I would then recommend just going for the cheapest one you can find. Having gone through two colour camera phones (both Motorola), I can say, yes, colour is cool, but chances are, when your outside, you don't give a dam and under the sun, it's damn hard to read the screens without covering it with shade. As for the camera, when I first got the phone, I used it plenty of time everyday, a few weeks on, it came to about once a month... now?... Haven't used it for a..g..e...s..... Come to think of it, all the extra features aren't required. Generally, as long as the phone talks and texts well, then that should be all you need.

:)

313846 2005-01-14 11:35:00 Now I admit I know stuff all about cell phones, but that is bloody expensive for a phone isnt it.

I aggree with ~sy~, all that extra stuff is just to get you hooked, then the price slowly creaps up, and once your hooked it can be hard to give up.

313847 2005-01-14 17:51:00 Cheers guys.

This is actually going to be my first cellphone, as I haven't gotten off my lazy but in the last few years to get one, despite saying to myself "I've got to get a cellphone sometime". 99.9% of my friends are on Telecom, so it would make sense for me to get a Telecom phone too in order to have cheaper communication with them (text or otherwise), as both Telecom and Vodafone don't seem to like inter-network text messages and phone calls.

My primary concern was whether this phone was well built. A friend of mine said that a couple of his friends had one, and they "broke", although he didn't actually know any specifics.

Extra features - I see your point, but it's kinda good knowing that they're there in case one day you feel like making use of them (and also this phone looks better than most of the othershttp://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Thanks for all your comments guys - keep the suggestions rolling in.

Luckily I'm not (as up to this date I don't own a cellphone), and I'm going to make very certain that I won't become a heavy texter - $10 a month on unnecessary messages seems a bit of a waste of money.
