313719 2005-01-13 21:56:00 I never have, but it seems some people do. Rob99 (151)
313720 2005-01-13 22:17:00 I pay for good software because I would like to be paid for the work I do.

I would like to think that i will be financially able to support by donation all the free ware progs i use, but at this point in time, i use them because they are there, and they are free.

I would not like to think i do all my hard work here at the coffee drinkers place :p and not get paid. so i dont think it is fair to expect others to do that in their line of work also.

so yes one day.
If i have anything of use, and alive puter wise then. :D

313726 2005-01-14 03:33:00 Well I voted may do in the future, but I dont know how true that is.

If I was to pay it would be for Firefox, which I get a lot of use out of.

How much would you donate?

In another thread a few people said they were going to donate today, how many more people are doing the same thing around the world.

These people could be rolling in cash and just saying it's hard out there how about you give them some money for some thing they let you have for free.

313727 2005-01-14 04:06:00 The poll questions are quite right Rob, in lumping Freeware and Shareware together, so I find myself unable to vote

Freeware is freeware, so you dont have to pay . Some like SpyBot ask for voluntary donations, others ask for postcards etc .

Shareware you have to pay for if you want to keep it ( unless one resorts to underhand practices) . Good shareware is worth paying for, and I have quite a bit of paid for shareware . I'm not too keen on crummy shareware, sometimes they are being cheeky asking for payment when the software is full of bugs .

As far as Spybot goes, it seems to work well, and if people expect to get continual updates, then a moderate donation seems a small one off price to pay .

I have seen good shareware fall over and be discontinued because of dodges to get around paying .

Then there is the self-congratulatory, feel-good, warm-feeling aspect of paying for shareware . :D . The try before buy concept is excellent .

What I dont like is when you buy shareware at the tail end of a version, and within weeks a major new upgrade appears that you are not entitled to free :angry

But it's up to individuals to decide what they want to do .

313728 2005-01-14 08:49:00 I have paid for all of the programs that I use constantly, including Cardfile, Eudora, Trillian Pro, Paintshop Pro and a couple of others that I can't remember at the moment .

The only program that I haven't paid for yet is Opera but I do plan to support them one of these days soon . :)
