| 313082 | 2005-01-11 15:23:00 | I was just looking through the members list sorted by postcount (arrrrg, I'm 2nd highest postcount??????) in reverse order (as you do ;)), and noticed 13 pages of users with a postcount of 0, many of which had names similar to existing users. Names like 'Jen C' and ones with an _ instead of a space or vice versa. And 'Chilling_Silently'. What is the meaning of this? Unless it has something to do with bots and spiders (forums.pcworld.co.nz) ;). |

| 313083 | 2005-01-11 23:32:00 | A number of name variations were taken up to prevent them being hijacked by certain individual(s) who decided to disrupt the opening of the new Forum with a load of spurious posts in the names of established members. Others may simply be members who have signed up and will use the forum as and when needed. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 313084 | 2005-01-11 23:48:00 | I think that its also to do with the activation email problem. EG dave signs up but can get activated so he signs up again as dave_l and still cant get the activation email so he trys again as dave_lister and then............ |

Unless it has something to do with bots and spiders (forums.pcworld.co.nz) ;).It is in part an attempt to avoid ones identity from falling into the hands of fools. I have several identitys that i have used, but am unlikely to use again. I keep them incase i change my mind, or to prevent others from pretending to be me. :D |

I've got more than one - so nobody can register and be confused with me :) They will be mostly unused, but they will be occasionally (as they were on the previous forum). I also have two called "Mike" :p Mike. |

A post count in my humble opinion does not count for a lot. Take Godfather for example. That person has been hanging around for some time and has made quite a few posts. Each post I have seen seems to be to the point and elicit further info etc. That person is not the only one I might add. If a person has a post count of 4000 does that make them more erudite than a person that has 100 or even less? I wonder if people are equating post counts with actual knowledge to fix a problem? |

I totally agree Elephant. I was recently alarmed to find I have the 2nd most posts on the forum. Gave me quite a scare! |
