638008 2008-02-21 21:41:00 Have you tried sending e-mail to your own account? Your message will be bounced back with followind message:
'Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table'
Tha means their server is not accepting any incoming messages.
I tried sending e-mail to customer support page at 'compass communication' website. (freenet and this is same company). www.compass.net.nz
But even for sending a support e-mail you need a 4 digit PIN number, what a hopeless situation freenet users are in.
try ringing this number: 0800-640-840 again.

638009 2008-02-21 22:35:00 Funny how different people get different responses when they call help lines. I have called the 0800 number twice in 6 days, and on the first call I got a prompt answer and a job reference number. They said they were having server problems.

Today I called again, used the automated call-back system and received a call in less than 5 minutes. A knowlegeable and courteous guy told me they had experienced a major server failure and that the new one was giving teething problems. He knew all the effects etc and how they affected different customers in differing ways, explained more than I needed to know and said that they were running new scripts today thet they hoped would cure the problems.

I can't really complain too much as I have had pretty much 100% reliability for several years, from a few months after they started in fact, and this is the first major glitch. In all that time the account has cost me less than $30 so it's not all bad.

Cheers

Still theamount of time it has taken them is unprofessional, and shows they aren't committed to providing the freenet service anymore. They should pull the service totally, or put a proper announcement on their webpage about what is going on.

638011 2008-02-25 20:56:00 Thank you so much for posting that info Billy T. I have just registered here today so I could post a query about what is happening with freenet. I have had no email for 3 weeks. It looks like I will just have to sit back and wait patiently like everyone else and hope it all comes right in the end. Country Bump (13377)
638012 2008-02-25 22:11:00 Three weeks? That's no time at all. :)

nzoomail went down for three months, losing [b]all[/n] incoming and outgoing mail in that big bit bucket in the sky. No error messages. Just no mail.

638013 2008-02-25 22:19:00 Update:

Last week I put in another call on the 0800 number and again I received courteous assistance and confirmation that the server issues were ongoing. I was told that webmail was functioning OK but their mail servers were still having problems. The next day I received a call out of the blue to tell me that it was all fixed.

I checked, and although normal service was present for delivery of email to my inbox on their server (which has been up most of the time) I still cannot download, I can log on to the server, but as soon as the download starts it is terminated and that is still the current status as of this morning.

Fortunately I can still log on to the server and check all mail via Mailwasher so I'm not missing anything but I can't download the items I want to save.

Cheers

638014 2008-02-25 22:34:00 I've been able to download freenet mail with OE for a few days now - just sent myself a email from my ihug acc to freenet acc to check again and it was there instantly and downloaded np. bevy121 (117)
638015 2008-02-25 22:59:00 I've been able to download freenet mail with OE for a few days now - just sent myself a email from my ihug acc to freenet acc to check again and it was there instantly and downloaded np.
That's interesting, I am using Outlook. I have OE on an old laptop but it might be a bit of a mission to set it up for broadband. I can't see why the Email Client should be a factor in the problem, but that's outside my expertise so who knows? it might be part of the problem.

Can anybody here download mail from Freenet using Outlook?

Cheers

Thanks, but my question was "is anybody using Outlook" not Outlook Express . I have since found that I cannot log in to Freenet Webmail either, I enter my logon and password but it spits me out and tells me I need to be logged on to access that page . Go figure!

Despite this, Mailwasher logs in to my account without problems and lets me read mail and delete unwanted items . That is fine for most mail, but some contain links that are not visible in Mailwasher and they are the ones I need to download .

I think it is time to phone them again .

Cheers
