| 637988 | 2008-02-08 04:45:00 | ------------------------------------------------------------ You are right, but do you pay for 'hotmail', 'yahoomail', 'gmail' there are several fee mail provider and they provide much better interface and lots of space (not like freenet '16mb'). Only thing probably this company do not know how to generate money form advertisement etc. Once I was paid customer of freenet for nearly 3+ years and sadly I didn't changed may e-mail address and continue to use this address, but now it is high time and should ditch this service. In past when I had problems, their technical support replies came in months time and several time it never came back. Anyway at this stage I am concerned with my existing mails, if I get it back then I'll plan something else. ------------------------------------------------------ Xtra Yahoo / hotmail /gmail are USA based, and it is a lot cheaper for them to provide the service over there compared to NZ, and also they are a far far bigger company, so they can absorb losses. Also they use advertising as their method of receiving revenue. Gmail for instance scans your emails, and produces advertising based on it's profile of you. Also I wouldn't consider the free providers as a partically reliable service, often they classify legitimate email as spam, and sometimes email takes ages to be received, and sometimes email either sent or received email just goes missing. It is fine for a back up service but domain name based email is really the best solution. I am actually surprised freenet are still operating. I used them back at the turn of the century, but after they started billing me for it, and didn't inform me that their terms had changed, I ditched them. |

| 637989 | 2008-02-08 04:47:00 | No response to my email, which doesn't surprise me, I've been waiting 2 years for a response to my last message. Sounds like Slingshot, I am still waiting for a reply to my helpdesk ticket from last year. |

| 637990 | 2008-02-09 03:51:00 | Freenet and Orcon are both back to normal now. Orcon was first and made a complete recovery in one hit, FreeNet stuttered a few times than finally settled down about 12 hours later. I still suspect an Xtra issue but maybe I'm just being paranoid! Any word on the Ihug problems? Cheers Billy 8-{) |

The text of the article is superimposed right over the large webmail screenshot. Very difficult to read. | Jen (38) | ||

In my case I have 3 freenet mail accounts. I can login now and have only 7-8 newly arrived email. All my old e-mails (nearly 170, 70 and 50 mail in each account) are gone? I don't know if they are working on giving back old e-mail 'or' from their side 'job is done!!!' Ashdave |

If the server goes down and they don't have good backup systems you are in trouble. Basically you get what you pay for. Why are you using webmail anyway when you could use pop3 and keep the messages on your computer. If you wanted a copy on webmail as well you could set your mail client to leave a copy on the server. |
