Should also be easier at this time of year because most of the cars are now considered one more year older. Worth a try, but as I say, don't be disappointed to lose out on a buy, theres always plenty. My parents spent 2 years lookin through approximately 10-20 different models And in the end got a bargain and a great car we now love. Just thinking about it now, Giltrap Toyota lost out on a deal because they, for some reason, just had to put the car on a 'clean' at the same time we asked to come see it. We had all our money side of things sorted, and were planning on driving home in the new car (even got friend to drop us off!), but they ignored us. So that was their loss. That exact same car (Avalon) has now lost in popularity and is like a 'budget car' now used for Taxis! Thank god we didn't buy it!

Just to add, with MH, one of our friends were heading overseas urgently and sold their Honda Legend to them for $18k (this was a couple of years ago). We then decided, after we left, that it wasn't a bad car. So off we went.. and saw a window price of $28k!!! In the end we got it down to $22.5k. For some reason, got sold before we were going to finalise sale! Also thank god we didn't buy it, because we have since heard from the previous owners that it drinks like a pig!

Ha! Typical... I'm not fond of Giltrap Toyota in town either... had issues with a new car with them and they treated me as if I wasn't a realistic prospect.

Yeah... I was looking at an Evo 7 from MH which I know for a fact they've had for at least a year now. The problem is that the Evo 8 has been released, and you can import 7s for approx $27 - $30k. They had a variety of prices on it from $35k - $38k across several internet auction sites (Trademe to Autopoint to Go Auto) ...

Anyway, I told them about private sales and provided other market evidence to them. I even offered cash for it telling them my alternative was importing one through another company. Time isn't an issue for me, as I have another car to get me by.

The guy told me I would be "wasting my time" offering the sort of money I did.

Their loss, as far as I'm concerned, but just a crazy attitude to take.

Lo.

314646 2005-01-17 03:02:00 I'm starting to look for alternatives now, I don't really like to buy a Toyota because cars like Camrys are very plain, just normal sedan. Honda Accord Euro and USA version I do like but they are apparently really expensive, would really much rather spend 30k on a Subaru, which is bigger and more pratical. What I'm planning to do is go back to McDonald Halligens once in a while and see if the car is still there or if any new Lancasters have arrived, and try get a good discount, at least more than $2000 they tried to give me. 314647 2005-01-17 03:22:00 Unless you want a wagon, I'd be recommending the 'new'er version of Nissan Maxima. They are top of the line car, unbelievable fuel efficiency and just as beautiful as the Honda Accords. Their engine have won 'Top Engine' awards every year in many different tests. Sound system is awesome. Can't say enough about them. Get like a ex-demo or slightly used one and you'll save heaps.

No we don't own one, but know many friends who do. And if we were to get another car, it'd almost definitely be this one.

314648 2005-01-17 03:22:00 looking at the one on the l' Marque web site I'd say the price is a bit on the high side and 2g discount is not a lot to ask... of course you could always ask them to throw in a free mechanical warranty/insurance/on road costs. You probably know already but the 'extra' charges to register imports add up to about $300 odd dollars.

If it was me I wouldn't look at buying anything other than a Subaru now. The lancaster will take the knocks, heavier body and suspension etc than most 'road' cars and standard legacy models... I had one 'written off' (turned into a sub compact) and I was very glad I was driving a Subaru... the other guy wasn't.

314649 2005-01-17 03:35:00 You previously mentioned Honda Accord. I've just found this one here (www.autozam.co.nz), and comparing it the Subaru, I'd say this one is a bargain. I haven't even seen that model (stationwagon) in NZ until now.

Don't think it's all wheel drive though~

314650 2005-01-17 03:40:00 I have seen the honda wagon, it's an Accord Euro wagon, seen it couple of days ago, don't think it is as powerful compared to the Subaru and I'm really looking for alloys. Let's keep this thread going for a bit longer as I just found out insurance with AMI or Tower for the Lancaster or similar model is around $1100 per year. Is this a good or bad price for this car? Infinity (6758)
314651 2005-01-17 03:46:00 Oh, it doesn't have alloy!?! As for the insurance, it's approximately what I would have thought of. But I think you would now get an idea of how expensive a Subaru really is to insure. We have a Suzuki insured with AMI for just over $500 per year all up. Value I think is about $32k or so I think. ~sy~ (95)
314652 2005-01-17 04:13:00 With our 1987 Galant we have insurance with ASB, third party, it's only about $150 per year. We havn't asked ASB yet, but I think even if it is cheaper it probably wouldn't be cheaper by a great deal. Infinity (6758)
